That's very untrue. Steinem once told Terry Gross that she didn't marry until her sixties because "first I had to reinvent the institution of marriage." Women had no economic equality in the workplace, no equal access, no right against marital rape, sexual harassment...

Your annual reminder that the Act did not fully abolish slavery, and it continued to be legal in parts of the British Empire such as St Helena and Ceylon, and the massive territories under EIC control.
Slavery Abolition Act of got Royal Assent on this day in 1833. It freed about 800,000 people. 45,000 slave owners (3000 in the UK) were paid compensation for human property: a total of £20 million in 1833 - about £3 billion by inflation (or much more 40% of Treasury income, or 5% of GDP in 1833)
On this day in 1833, the Slavery Abolition Act received royal assent, abolishing slavery in the British Empire.

This morning, the Coldstream Guards at Buckingham Palace performed a tribute to Dolly Parton.

I don’t mean to be rude here, but we *already* had the peer review on these racist doctrines decades ago. Hence why ‘race realism’ is a paradigmatic instance of pseudoscience: it’s been thrown in the dustbin of history long before many of us were even born. We don’t have to have this same ‘debate’
Academia is a unique space where people can pursue controversial questions wherever they lead. If the work is pseudoscience (and, in my view, Cofnas' race science clearly is), academia has effective channels for response: public criticism and peer-review.

This. I can't believe that some people are still denying the issue, but those who argue that it is too expensive to tackle the climate emergency need to take a look at the costs of ignoring it.
Pay attention Richard Tice, you might think that this ‘weather’ is nice - good for grapes. Half a billion a year already in lost productivity in London alone, much more to come. The climate crisis is an economic crisis wrapped in extreme weather. We need more action and less fossil foolishness.

Contemplating the fact that I now have a routine for dealing with a heatwave. Let as much cold air in as possible in the morning, then cover windows on the outside. All developed this year. Yet the new PM has not yet said anything. This is climate chaos and is an emergency.

It’s a low bar but I am delighted to see this.
The UK has had four widespread instances of extreme heat this year. The national May temperature record was broken at 35.1°C in West London, and June bringing temperatures above 37°C in East Anglia.
