Justice Alito, the pseudo-intellectual prolapse of the Federalist Society, is vile, but Rep. Levin is simply wrong about recusal here. Federal law does not require a judge to recuse because their child works for a government agency or department …

There is no world in which this is okay.

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito did not recuse himself from cases involving Trump’s Treasury Department while his own son was secretly working there as a political appointee and attorney. 🧵

Philip Alito has been working as an attorney with the Treasury’s office of the general counsel for months even as the Supreme Court takes up cases involving the department.

This is dead on. If the Democrats retake the House and Senate--or even just the House--it could mark the beginning of the end of a 50-year Republican project. If they can't? The GOP will spend the next 2 years destroying all remaining guardrails. Most important midterms of our lives, no question.
The Roberts Court, the Trump White House, and the national GOP are acting like this is their one big shot. Either they secure the lasting end of US Constitutional democracy, or they’re in very serious trouble from the backlash. And they’ve already gone so far that there’s no other possibility.

Didn't the Supreme Court say Texas couldn't use their old maps back in December because it was too close to the primary elections? But it's okay for Alabama, where voting has ALREADY BEGUN?

where is john roberts to tell us that this is just one of those apolitical, unpopular decisions the court has to make sometimes?
This is absolutely outrageous. SCOTUS reinstated Texas gerrymander 15 weeks before primary because they claimed it was too close to election to block it but now allowing Alabama to gerrymander one week before primary after trial court found map was intentionally discriminatory against Black voters
#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three Democratic appointees, #SCOTUS issues “GVRs” in the Alabama cases—vacating district court injunctions & remanding for further proceedings in light of Callais.

In practice, this means Alabama can now redraw its congressional districts in time for the midterms:

They could not be clearer. Their goal is the restoration of white supremacy and the disenfranchisement of voters of color, a return to the days before the VRA and the entrenchment of permanent Republican dominance.

SCOTUS, which ordered Alabama to create a second Black opportunity district just 3 years ago, has lifted that order a week before the primary. The Purcell principle says courts shouldn't permit chaos too close to an election—it's now an open question whether there will even be a primary on schedule.

Just a few months ago, Trump was grading his own economy an “A++++.”

Turns out the U.S. lost 92,000 jobs in February, when economists expected us to gain 50,000. That’s a 142,000-job swing in a single month, and we’ve now lost jobs in 3 of the last 6 months.

The payrolls number was worse than expected and a sign that the job market continues to struggle in nearly every sector.

The 'Center for Environmental Accountability' that got the EPA to reverse 2009's Endangerment Finding has no actual office space.

Its address is a rented mailbox in a 3rd-party shipping store. Odd for a group that champions "transparency + accountability in environmental + energy policy."

Read it.
