New paper out NOW! 🎉

Do people care enough about unfair inequality for it to affect their subjective well-being?
And does it matter whose earnings they perceive as unfair (their own, the rich, or the poor)?

We find: not all perceived unfairness is equal.

📄 New working paper with an amazing group: Jule Adriaans, @brueggemann-o.bsky.social, @cmoya.bsky.social & Sandra Bohmann

We ask:

Can evidence of gender pay gaps (overall or within jobs) raise concerns about fairness and, in turn, shift policy preferences?

Timely new paper in @socioeconreview.bsky.social: Does rising wealth concentration undermine American democracy?

Using variation across the 50 U.S. states, results reveal a clear, negative effect of millionaire wealth concentration on democratic performance.

Interesting new QJE paper shows inflation gets more attention when people are more exposed to it and when they have past inflation experiences. Those with inflation top of mind follow more inflation news, raise inflation expectations more; firms are more likely to raise prices.

This year's PISA results are really striking. If the decline in performance in reading and mathematics cannot be explained by measurement issues (as argued in the report), the decline is truly immense.

COS is announcing important changes to the Open Science Framework (OSF).

OSF Projects—used for project collaboration, file mgmt, & storage—is being phased out as an active workspace over the next 6 months. This change does not affect persistence & accessibility of existing public projects. (🧵1/2)

Subjective Inequity Aversion: How Perceived Unfair Inequality Affects Subjective Well-being - Journal of Happiness Studies
Combining theoretical insights from social justice literature and social comparison research, this paper argues that subjective perceptions of inequity (i.e., unfairness), rather than objective deviations from equality, are key to understanding the relationship between (in)equality and subjective well-being.
