A few weeks ago I sat side by side with one of our authors for a few hours. At one point, she looked at me with a smile and said, "You know you mutter to yourself?" I was like, ok, yes, I'm sure I do. She said, "You're just sitting there going, 'It's fine, it's fine it's fine it's fine."

Our fall intern is working on, among other things, our digital marketing. Without using genAI. The graphics she's making are a different style than what I make, which is fine and even awesome. But I told her that if the AI hunters descend, I have her back and she should not worry about it.
The rush to accuse, without anything approaching due diligence, artists of using "AI," should be treated with contempt. An artist gets their work *ripped off* to train a plagiarism machine, which then shits out inferior versions of that work, so then you accuse the artist of using "AI"? Fuck you.
Wow. LOISH got accused of using Ai to make her art. I started following her on early deviantart. I remember first seeing her paintings in college. This is ridiculous, no one is safe. Artists Ive followed for actual decades are getting harassed because their work has been stolen and regurgitated.

This is an appreciation post for folks who just dive right into the chaos. Last Tuesday was the first day of our fall intern's internship. At the end of the day, I got really awful news that led me to travel to Upstate NY for four days. Our intern rolled right with it. And because of that...

In the last four days of last-minute trip to see my parents I have given and received many hugs, seen family I hadn't seen in years, helped with a big fundraiser, stayed with one of my oldest friends, reconnected with another and now I'm in a taxi heading home from the airport and I am wiped man

Has a certain recent movie trailer (ahem, "Wicker") sparked an urge in you to dive into the thick rods and slender weavers of basket weaving (either because of or in spite of what they’re called 😉)?

Have duty frees on the US side of Canadian airports always had big bold signs about taking advantage of the strong US dollar? Felt (more than usual) like walking through a dystopian film set.

(On my way to support family through a tragedy do not @ me about crossing the border)

BC has a new time zone abbreviation: PCT.

PCT stands for Pacific Time, BC’s single year-round time zone. It replaces PST and PDT, providing a consistent way to refer to BC’s time zone in schedules, systems and communications.

No falling back this November.

During the whole EuroVAT kerfuffle several years ago some folks started talking about micro-businesses. Maybe this term needs reviving in this context?

It's adorable to be in a Govt of Canada webinar for businesses on managing tariffs and cash flow for exporters and they're talking about businesses' "bank partners." My dude, what about businesses that are actually SMALL. Not "small" by govt standards (which require seven figures in revenue???).
