✨ Big news, Victoria! I am officially running for re-election to Victoria City Council, and throwing my hat in the ring for the CRD Board to tackle regional housing, homelessness & transit.

Thanks to you, we fulfilled all the 2022 campaign promises my team made. Let’s keep moving forward! (1/3)

17 lives have been lost in Victoria since December, and behind every one of these names is a grieving family.

The recent memorial for the seven people lost in the Victoria street community in March is a heartbreaking reminder that addiction is never an individual struggle.

17 deaths in 3 months in downtown Victoria 💔

Unsheltered residents are grieving an immense loss, and we cannot let them do it alone.

Heart, Brains, and Courage in Victoria!

It was an honour to deliver remarks as Acting Mayor for the opening night of Glenlyon Norfolk’s production of The Wizard of Oz.

Standing on that stage was a full-circle moment for me…

Go Krista! Councillor Loughton is absolutely right. We need to pull out all the stops to help people get off the street. It makes no sense to have people who no longer need supportive housing remain because they can't afford market rent.
@kristaloughton.bsky.social
Loughton emphasizes how much she wants this done ASAP, before April. "We need to get people indoors. It's critically important. It's the most important thing this Council can do."

Council unanimously supported my motion yesterday to address the bottleneck in Victoria’s supportive housing system.

Helping people who are ready to move on frees up supportive housing, helps more people move indoors, and reduces visible homelessness.

Thank you, Jim, for this excellent thread on my council motion this week — POSITIVE FLOW: Unlocking Supportive Housing and Shelter Spaces.

This is a win/win: helping people move on from supportive housing while opening space for those coming from shelters or the street. I hope Council passes it!

“Pope Leo said in a Christmas Eve sermon on Wednesday that the story of Jesus being born in a stable because there was no room at an inn should remind Christians that refusing to help the poor & strangers today is tantamount to rejecting God himself.”

Merry Christmas!

As many gather with friends, family, and loved ones today, I’m grateful for the frontline workers, first responders, and community organizations who keep people safe and supported, especially those who are struggling the most.

May we continue to care for one another today…

My winter solstice pup turns seven today. It’s hard to believe how quickly the years have passed.

She’s been dubbed the City Hall mascot and has a special way of making everyone smile and bringing a little extra light to our days.

Happy birthday to Jedha, the First Paw of City Hall 🐾

Thirty-five years ago, 14 women were murdered at Montréal’s École Polytechnique because they were women.

The attacker’s own note made his misogyny clear: “Feminists have always enraged me… I have decided to send the feminists, who have always ruined my life, to their Maker.”

🧵I stand unwavering against residential school denialism. This rhetoric is harmful, devastating, and retraumatizing for survivors and intergenerational survivors.

The truth is not up for debate; it is clearly documented in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s findings.
