Sad but very true.
In a lot of ways, the environmentalism of my parents' generation didn't ask anyone to sacrifice anything. People still drove (but it was a Prius), lived in the burbs (but with a beautiful garden), bought supermarket food (but bought organic). It was an aesthetic choice as much as anything. 🧵

Really good thread here! There are a lot of autoimmune diseases in my family, and there are times we know more about some things than our doctors do. Yes, I trust modern medicine. Also, I know that doctors are human and don't know everything and there's more to learn. It's a tricky balance!

Maha is just another astroturfed front in the American Reactionary Movement. This movement is responsible for every public health crisis: climate, automobile deaths, gun violence, homelessness, poverty. Its the Don't Tell Me What To Do movement. They are few but they're mobilized for war.
The few things that maha "gets right" are such banal and commonplace ideas that no one disagrees upon and are not worth mentioning.

My lukewarm take on 1.5 stories is that climate is only one of many reasons to phase out fossil fuels, and probably not in the top two reasons for most people. We should do it regardless, to save millions of lives per year from air pollution, reduce exposure to high and volatile fossil prices, and..
