What if the AIs had been coded and trained by ppl who never experienced capitalism or Continental philosophy or the "Enlightenment"?

Just had a reviewer tell me they can't do the review because they have to go to so many emergency meetings about budget cuts and structural changes. I'm mad, but I'm not mad at the reviewer.

This is to say/I have rejected the article you submitted/and you probably thought it was brilliant/but it was twice the word limit/and your email to your friends seeking "blind" reviewers/was so unethical/ and so rude

My new essay—on prosopopoeia, late liberalism, nuclear colonialism and imperialism, and sexual difference—is out in the Sept. issue of @differences.bsky.social. With readings of Albert Serra's Pacifiction, Anohni's Hopelessness, and an ecodrama by Ontroerend Goed. A taste of the big-book-to-come.
Calamity as Defacement
Abstract. Prosopopoeia defines legal and discursive efforts to cognize, and to exempt ourselves from, extinction. The figure of the Anthropocene, for instance, fits a human mask onto the modulation of...

Told an author that their paper read like the forest and the trees and the kitchen sink thrown in. I meant it nicely.

Decision queue back up to 22 and that's AFTER making a half dozen decisions.

Thinking that once I'm done editing American Anthropologist, I might quietly exit the discipline altogether. I have other things to do!

Update on the article I rejected because: 15 invites, zero reviewers. Sr. Scholar contacted me and said they were going to send a list of other ppl to ask. Another person wrote saying they would do it. So it's going back into the hopper. Solidarity for the win!

Thinking back to my undergrad degree in drama and how few of us saw salaries to justify the expense by working in the field. It was a fantastic education that served us in other pursuits. Anthropology, real estate, teaching, law, medicine, entrepreneurship..... .

Anthropologists working on books: has your press asked you to provide signed release forms for identifiable public figures? Even if you have interview recordings and context that makes it clear they knew they were talking to a researcher?
