"To his critics, it raises questions about the authenticity of some narratives that New Yorkers are viewing about their mayor." Is NYT a critic of the strategy that displaces MSM as the arbiters of "authentic narratives?" I'm not clear whether influencers are more trustworthy, but sheesh.
There is a story here—I think the emails quoted here suggest a degree of friendliness that’s shade past standard greasing. Maybe the relationships should be disclosed. But the story is not “used taxpayer money,” which is the serious charge that will get taken up elsewhere.
By this measure, you could say the Trump administration is “paying” Maggie Haberman, since having access to him “put her in a position” to write a best-selling book.

Among other things, Elon Musk now makes clear his belief that women must be disenfranchised. And he's now the sole source funder of the Texas GOP. Shouldn't Texas GOP candidates who are running with his money be asked about this?

President Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to change the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America. Like his order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, it most likely requires only federal entities to recognize the change. It does not have to be recognized by other countries.

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.
