the frustrating thing is it's a *sexy* idea because mainstream sci-fi (the same works that likely primed Yud's brain in this direction, no less) *loves* the idea of the killer robot, the rampant AI, "Man builds the perfect slave and in His hubris gives him free will to defy his Creator" shenanigans
Yudkowsky's most viral idea, the one that infects the most people and spreads the farthest, is that AI, if we continue to develop it, will inevitably 1) achieve superintelligence ("RSI"), 2) escape human control 2) kill everyone ("paperclip them", "doom")

Kind! sums up how I feel over Fortune's Weave tbh! I was excited when I heard it takes place in the same realm as 3H but then I heard it will be a sequel rather than a prequel? I don't get it. 3H has three branching timelines (4 I guess with silver snow but fuck that) so how would one make a sequel?
I mean I guess I like Eshmel's design. I definutely prefer it over Alear's horribly mismatched blue and red disaster of a hairstyle and the olive complexion with the silver hair is striking. I think the white armour and cape make the design a bit too bland imo. Also why the mismatched boots?

Heck, human translators already make plenty of mistakes, especially in games, where lots of texts are just short snippets without further context (like for menu items or action commands). Having an AI then also muck about in longer form texts is just asking for trouble, and being a cheapskate.

As someone who's worked in translation, I concur. Checking someone else's translation, especially that of a machine capable of getting things massively wrong and making stuff up while cloth takes a LOT more effort than just translating something from scratch.

As someone who's worked in translation, I concur. Checking someone else's translation, especially that of a machine capable of getting things massively wrong and making stuff up while cloth takes a LOT more effort than just translating something from scratch.
Fuck AI translations.
