My husband asked what the plan for Rikers Island is, once NYC grows the Prison Industrial Complex with new inhumane facilities for incarceration.
The only thing I could think of is, for billionaires, either housing or a resort?

Thousands of immigrants did the hard, dirty work of clearing rubble and toxic dust and debris from Ground Zero. Many were undocumented laborers sent to work every day with no special PPE, and got cancer as a result. Now some of those same people are living in fear of ICE.

At 880 Front St, San Diego, CA 92104, our federal building. People are kept in the basement, in cages, sleeping on the floor, with maybe yoga mats to sleep on and one of those silver emergency blankets. This space is not intended to house humans, but they are kept there, often overnight and longer.

This free documentary is a MUST SEE. Shuffling people around the US, away from their attorneys and family, away from their Habeas Corpus filings, on a merry-go-round of extremely expensive tax-payer funded charter flights, is a key part of the ICE death machine and hardly anyone is talking about it.
