#ManyLanguagesChallengeOfTheMonth
Citation practices suffer from systemic biases that can distort the academic record. Researchers often rely on a narrow canon of highly cited publications as cognitive shortcuts for identifying authoritative work, a phenomenon related to the Matthew Effect.

For this month’s #ManyLanguagesChallengeOfTheMonth, we’re turning our attention to the big picture:

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲?

We’d love to hear what you see as the most pressing or exciting open questions in the field.

Daniel's useful take on alternatives to the OSF for data storage. We at @manylanguagesc.bsky.social will also pivot to a combination of Github and Zenodo.
New Blog post: Which Data Repository Should you Use?

In light of OSF closing down, I compare Zenodo, Dataverse, ResearchBox, PsychArchive, and local repositories on six important dimensions. If you want to know which to pick: It depends!

representativeness is a big issue for BTS.

our argument is backed by a new study, from Cindel White & @michael.muthukrishna.com: "more highly educated ppl are significantly more culturally similar to WEIRD countries, such as the Anglosphere and Western Europe." www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Dear exp linguist, for my advanced stats class, I am looking for articles that
- are experimental linguistics-ish
- report on linear mixed models that did not converge with the intended random effect structure (using lme4)
- published open data and scripts

Please @ me, I would appreciate it!

One of the major extrinsic hurdles to increasing outreach for @manylanguagesc.bsky.social has been structural and institutional requirements for potential collaborators to be `first authors' and/or 'last authors' for them to even be considered candidates for positions.
