Do not tell me about "lost generations" when I can see how easily I could have been lost, and know that so many others just simply didn't have my luck, and ARE lost, because of what they didn't have.

Based on what they found out in those investigations, which took forever thanks to witness intimidation etc,

The DOL put in a bunch of anti-slavery provisions for H2A farm workers in 2024.

And Trump cancelled back in June 2025.

Who's in power absolutely does matter.

there's a thing in moderate democratic politics where it is considered fundamentally illegitimate to deliver results to your own voters; instead, you must propose a better way to implement your adversaries' entire ideological program
"Making day care free, while offering nothing to stay-at-home parents, appeals to the educated, urban, affluent voters who have come to make up the Democratic base, but not to the electorate at large," Marc Novicoff argues:
The Problem With Democrats' Favorite Policy Proposal
Universal child care appeals to the party's cosmopolitan base—but not to most of the country.

Obligatory note bc this is Bluesky: polyamory can work, when that's what you both signed up for!

Being monogamous for several years & then one partner "discovers they're poly," especially when it's the dude in a straight couple… ho boy.

The sunny side of this delusion is the computer gives you a flying car and makes it so you don't have to work. The blackpill one is that it wipes us out via some cinematic method TBD. Two futures you don't actually have to live in. Both are abdications, and embarrassingly childish on their face.

“…if the last two years have confirmed anything, it’s that the logic of collective resistance is sound. Not only is the immediate price for bucking Trump small; it actually works.” More please, from institutions, business leaders, and of course voters!
Trump is raging at news orgs for refusing to cover his reception of Xi after he banned three from the White House. The real lesson here: When institutions join together to resist his abuses of power it actually works, sending him into a helpless fury.

The psychology of doomerism is that the Doomer is the smartest boy in class because he can see the Real Problem, which obviously negates the primacy of Other Problems. For totally mysterious reasons, the Real Problem is never poverty or discrimination.

Facts

Not unprecedented though.. The French monarchy was trash forever, but it was high bread prices that finally got 'em.
Glad about the result, but I don’t think it speaks well of us as a country that after two years of human rights violations, war crimes, naked gangster corruption, and contempt for the Constitution, he’s finally unpopular because gas got expensive.
Remarkable: An Iowa right wing radio host just leaked word that GOP polling shows House Rs in peril even in districts Trump won by +10. The culript? Trump and the war.

On the pod, Iowa Dem chair Rita Hart explains why the conditions are ripe for big Dem rural gains:

The thing that's infuriating about our squeamishness about consequences for traitors and corrupt officials is that we are one of the most punitive countries in the world in most other respects.
Yes. I think the consensus among US elite pundits and senior politicians that the way to protect liberal democracy is *not* to punish elite figures who violate its rules is wrong. A norm starting at least with the Watergate pardon. The opposite is true. You need to enforce the law and Constitution.
Once again, one of the primary reasons we have arrived at this point (completely out-of-control & unconstitutional abuse of executive power to conduct wildly illegal foreign policy) is that no one, including the most senior people involved, went to jail for the rest of their lives for Iran-Contra.

The story of the bosses' revolt comes down to their experience, in 2020, of helplessly watching the labor-income line go up — and resolving, right then and there, to make sure that never happened again.
One of my most galaxy-brained takes is that politicians and political groups should talk more about workers’ share of national income.

It's one of the clearest, simplest ways to describe how billionaires and corporate elites captured so much of the economy--and something policy can change.
U.S. workers' share of national income falls to a new low
Labor's bargaining position has worsened markedly in the last half-decade.

The main reason you haven’t heard about campus sexual violence in a few years is because Trump and SCOTUS have made it much, much harder for survivors to come forward.

You might vaguely remember that Title IX was a big battleground in his first term. And that we lost.

The push to make it so that "websites as a destination for humans is over" is an intentional move to violate the freedom to read of individuals and move access to information into a "pay to get an opaquely intermediated version from a nontransparent source" model.
people keep saying to me "the website as a destination [for humans] is over" "no one is going to read news on websites any more" "search is done". They are pushing for us to change how global voices works. I would love to hear what you all think of that and if you DO appreciate how we work now, why?

He has lost his own backup singers and band over this.

It's huge.

This is one of the biggest reasons I’m opposed to means testing for things like free school meals. I grew up in a community with a lot of kids from wildly wealthy families who were abused & neglected by their parents. Kids of wealthy parents need to be protected, too
fwiw, one reason young people are more attracted to egalitarian philosophies is that no young person is actually rich. children don't own any property in their own name. this is not just a tecnicality; it's a material reality that has realy material consequences. 1
