Dear MLB.TV,

I respect your decision have to Hi-Chew sponsor the Great Mascot Race, as it is a tasty, chewy candy. Having said that, I don't like that the Hi-Chew mascot has been hogging up one of the spots for several weeks now. AND bring back Youppi!!!

Sincerely,
Everyone

As many of you know, I have a problem with improper word usage, and I have a new target: Prime Day.

It cannot be Prime Day if there are four of them. You now have Prime Days. Fix this Amazon!

In case you missed it, here is my new piece, Viral Hippo, a piece I wrote solely because there isn't enough music for contrabassoon about pygmy hippo Instagrams. 🙂

I'm excited to announce a new project: Extant Flight! This will be a variable instrumentation quartet for any combination of bassoons and/or oboes (maybe even some wiggle room for English horns and bassoons ;) )

I hope you'll check it out.

Thought this piece might go in one direction and accidentally went another, more fun way. You could say that I took a wrong right turn at Albuquerque.

I heard a lot of hype about Sinners, and did it ever live up to it!

Go now and see Sinners!

In late March, my good friend, Andrew Tryon, along with the fabulous pianist Maeve Brophy, premiered my new horn sonata, Strangler Fig.

(Sorry that there isn't any video, someone sat right down in front of my camera)

Proof that time moves crazy fast. Its been two years since the premiere performance of Corpse Flower, by the amazing Erin Mallard and Jeong-Eun Lee.

Thanks to everyone who has performed it thus far, and I look forward to hearing the blooms of new corpse flowers in the future.

I just looked up tickets for the fever when I’m in Indianapolis in June and I can’t afford to go.

Stinks for me but awesome for the W!

Four years ago doesn't seem that long, until I listen to something I wrote then and how I've changed as a composer in that time.

Having said that, I love the simplicity of this piece. I think it very honestly conveys what I was feeling at the time.

Google has informed me that today is World Pygmy Hippo Day. Maybe my two favorite things on earth are the bassoon and hippos, so I felt it would be fun to share a video of a piece I wrote specifically about a pygmy hippo.

Note: It will not be my last piece about a pygmy hippo. 🙂

I got to do something incredibly rare yesterday and it was very cool.

During my performance at the CMS Central Region Conference in Lawrence, all three composers were in attendance. Thanks to Snow Kim, Kyle Vanderburg and Jonathon Erickson!

Thanks to everyone who came to the premiere of Sheyenne River yesterday. Also, thank you to James Landman and the Sheyenne High Bands for a wonderful performance.

I didn't get a video of the performance. Honestly, I wanted to just be in the moment, but I have a digital rendering.

On March 16, I'm happy to say that I was very, very wrong.

GO ROSE!!! See you tomorrow night!
