I had a little bit of difficulty writing this because the question "should a higher court overrule a lower court's administrative stay in a way that lets the appellee kill the appellant while the lower court is still reading the briefs" felt like a silly question. And yet.

There's a whole bit on today's @openargs.bsky.social in which I complain about how annoyed I am with myself for being sexually attracted to hatemonger Douglas Murray, which is both objectively funny and perhaps the most embarrassing way I could have publicly come out as a Kinsey 2 at the age of 46 🙃

This my new top candidate for a post which I would never believe could possibly be true if I could send it back in time to myself to read in 2016. It's a sick joke. They have managed to turn a refugee resettlement system which should be a matter of national pride into a parody of itself
BREAKING: For the first time in 10 months, the U.S. admitted a refugee who is not a white South African.

In September, the U.S. admitted 3,386 white South Africans and two Afghans (in D.C.)

In FY 2026, the U.S. has admitted a total of 16,287 white South Africans, five Afghans, and nobody else.

The American Association of University Professors has racked up plenty of confirmed Trump policy kills this term--hoping this is another! I was expecting this suit months ago, but the infamous "adjustment memo" I wrote about back in May is a nebulous beast

This story raises one of so many things that I wish every American knew about US immigration enforcement: continued detention of someone arrested on an old removal order* even after it is reopened and no longer valid is the rule--not the exception

*whether or not they ever knew about it

look we've all done drugs but also done the nuclear, that's what 5-HTP is for
Trump on Iran: "They were nuclear and drug. They were doing drugs but they were doing the nuclear. But these drug factories slash nuclear factories were hit so hard."

2 years later, here’s what the Trump campaign’s promise of mass deportation looks like on the ground: prioritizing young people who filed for asylum as children 10 years ago who now speak perfect English and are at the forefront of American cancer research.

Ask me how I know
JD Vance says mass deportations should 'start with 1 million,' defends 'thought experiment' giving parents extra votes
GOP vice presidential candidate JD Vance spoke with ABC News' Jonathan Karl about a wide variety of topics including immigration and his views on childless Americans.

the Hawks/Hawkeyes thing is really funny, but the fact that the brains of a sitting U.S. Senator *and his entire staff* are so thoroughly cooked that they thought this nonsense meant anything at all is going to make me go doomer if I think about it too much

unironically hoping that historians ironically label the second Trump term "the Era of Super Intelligence" for the rest of time
United States President Donald Trump issues executive order instructing federal government agencies to "use the terms 'Super Intelligence' and 'SI' in place of 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'AI' and will not acknowledge the usage of 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'AI' in any applicable setting."
Inaugurating The Era Of Super Intelligence

my man went so rogue that he wrote everything out as a chapter in the single most influential document of the MAGA movement a full year before the election before sliding comfortably into exactly the position he was lobbying for after it
Congress funded the CDC's Alzheimer's work, the sickle cell and epilepsy data programs and a rape prevention unit, and Vought simply will not release the money. Grassley told him to his face he lacks the authority. The pocket rescission alone took 4.9 billion.
Republicans furious as Trump’s budget director goes 'rogue'
The director of the Office of Management and Budget is infuriating Republican lawmakers by "going rogue" on what appropriations were approved by the House and Senate.

So irresponsible of him to do this at a time when we’ve demonized / criminalized the most effective class of rx pain management to such an extent that people with chronic pain are left to either suffer or figure out their own solutions. Botanical kratom fills that gap for many ppl.

This John Oliver piece is remarkably reductive--and regressive--for someone who is otherwise fairly reliable on the stuff that matters. Reducing botanical kratom to a dangerous "gas station drug" because 7OH exists is 1:1 like criminalizing marijuana because K2 & other synthetic THC products exist
