it's not saying much that the usa constitution was a foundational democratic document, but things like time, the economy, technology, national expansion, etc have changed revolutionarily several times and we've been patching it up. the dam is breaking. we stopped tending to democracy in our comfort.

we'd have to change large chunks of it, and with how partisan we are, it would take a top-down undemocratic rewriting.
