nice to see prime minister is putting his foot down and making it clear that if you hack the Australian government, he will say it is ‘concerning’ then roll over and continue with his plans to change the law so you can steal from Aussie artists

Punching a barely conscious man strapped to a hospital guerney: NOT a sackable offence for NSW Police.

Chris Minns and Labor have set this standard.

i believe our problems are fixable. we did manage to create a period of time when people could work a job, buy a house, and retire. i don't think this is some crazy unattainable thing, and i do believe essentially all of our big economic problems are fundamentally due to runaway wealth inequality

Abolish private education, shut down all the schools. Give these kids back to their parents. They all now go to their local schools. Prahran High might need a few more campuses. The good news is I’ve got a few suitable sites that have just come onto the market.

The Coalition made social security recipients exempt from the ordinary statutes of limitation on debt that apply to everyone else, it was a cornerstone of Robodebt.

The Royal Commission recommended theses changes to the law be repealed, which would be simple.

Labor have ignored this for >3 years.

I don’t trust that these people are going to helped when I see phrases like “offered opportunities to connect with support services.” We do provide “opportunities to connect” in this country—usually it means providing a phone number. Whether there’s anything at the other end is another matter.

Really wild story here. I had no idea about any of this - Tim's research is amazing and this absolutely mad fake climate policy cannot persist in its current form
Shell’s Prelude is a big floating gas terminal located half-way between Broome and Timor.

Let me tell you about how repeatedly exposing its workers to life-threatening risk between 2020 and 2023 have led to the facility being issued with $200m worth of entirely unearned offset credits.

🧵
I've put a new piece of analysis out today showing how Shell's Prelude LNG terminal will receive a butt tonne of free offset credits from the safeguard mechanism for no other reason than because it repeatedly exposed its workers from life threatening risk.

Really!

PH dogwhistled her way through the speech and most of the people in the room were dogs and enjoyed the whistling
Pauline Hanson dog whistled her way through the entire Press Club speech and apparently nobody in the room heard a thing.

pardon earnestposting but yeah the prayer would boil down to something like "dear lord, we believe you're a god of conquest and dominion who rewards the powerful, witness us work to eliminate rabble in your name." Not every Christian worships a god of compassion and charity!
Warnock: Right before they passed that ugly bill that cut $1 trillion out of medicaid, the Speaker of the House joined with other legislators and said a prayer, and then they went and voted for that bill. I just want to know what was in that prayer.

The journos giving fawning coverage to Hanson are competent actors, working in line with their values, to bring about a future that they want to live in. They can see Hanson's fascism perfectly well. Time to decide if we can see theirs.
They are utterly bereft of how to deal with her. They actually think her voters care about policy details.

At some point we’ve got to stop seeing this as a series of oopsies moments and recognise that we are in institutional collapse.

This system never “worked” the way we pretend it did. But at least there was some semblance of responsibility, of learning from mistakes

It’s over. Time to build new ones

In my brief and ill-advised stint as an ABC journo, Rebel News was among a group that mobbed me and other staff and taunted us at a 2021 anti-vaxxer rally. It was treated as a safety incident and IIRC we adopted new policies in response. Five years later, a star radio host is giving them comment.

so it's obviously a joke that Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts is bundled into a single grab bag government department. and it's a fun little bonus joke that their website logo is clearly OCR'd from a physical letterhead

The entire issue with the NDIS is that a generation of Australians (including almost everyone working in the political media) have become indoctrinated to believe the private sector is more efficient than the private sector.
