It took more than 3,000 emails, close to 80 hours of work, and turned further hairs white, but it is great to finally hold the printed proceedings from this year's Bridges #Mathart conference in hand! Kudos to Eve Torrence (managing editor), the other editors, and the authors!

This fall I am co-teaching a brand-new class – ENGR 009: Fabricating Tessellations and Tilings. It's roughly equal parts math and design, filtered thru an engineering perspective. The syllabus and all assignments are freely available to the public at mzucker.github.io/e9_f2026/

Último artículo publicado. Me hace especial ilusión porque trata de combinar Matemáticas y Arte. El objetivo era encajar piezas de Tetris para representar imágenes conocidas.

Any mapping is necessarily a kind of flattening, distortions happen, information lost. "Not even the most expansive mapping can convey everything" or, to quote Alfred Korzybski, "the map is not the territory"

More New Data Art! ✨

I got to visualize a private equity firm's data as a piece of art. I can't divulge more about the what and how, but I hope you can simply enjoy how it looks ;) It's basically built of from ±15 million tiny dots.

#ShowMeYourKnits #mathart 🧵
After I broke into two-color brioche, I had a brainwave that I could do this really cool thing as a knit #cowl. It was two years before I finally made my first try, shown here. Explanation and photos to follow; keep an eye on main and background colors. 🌈

At family day at Bridges I volunteered to help Nick Sayers with his giant pantograph. Trace the outline of the person, and a small copy is drawn by the pen. It was fun for kids and adults of all ages. Here is @ayliean.bsky.social as a model and an artist.
