Europe is older, but Latin America is aging faster.

The median age of a country or region is the age that divides its population into two equal parts: half of the people are older, and half are younger. As the population ages, the median age rises.

That’s what this chart tracks.

Figures published by NHS England pinpointed July’s two heatwaves as a key reason why a record 2.5 million people attended A&E that month.

They included people whose breathing problems and other underlying health conditions were exacerbated by the heat.

During the heatwaves doctors saw an increase in elderly people being light-headed, dizzy & falling. Some medication can exacerbate this ( see 🧵)

Many urban buildings do not have enough shade around them to prevent urban heat island effects.

We need more trees. Here's why.
Shade, cooling and survival: why we need more trees
Trees are nature’s air conditioning – cooling streets by up to 5°C, cutting heat risks, and helping cities withstand hotter summers

I’m not a proportional representation nut but it is worth noting today that the only prime minister recently to last a full electoral term headed a two party coalition government

Objectively, the first-past-the-post gives you stability and strong government argument has gone out the window

Solving the NHS crisis and the housing crisis must go hand in hand.

People must be able to see a GP when they need one.

The latest Global Methane Status Report shows that the 30% by 2030 goal remains within reach, but action must accelerate: https://ow.ly/gGHz50YC6FL.
