My Best Posts of 2025
I've decided I'm going to do 2023 as well, which means these are going to be out of order but whatever.
My Best Posts of 2024 ('cause why not)
Having part of my job be fixing everyone else’s mistakes is a real mixed bag, because I like problem-solving, but also some days it is really frustrating how stupid people are and how much effort I have to put in to clean up their mess compared to how little effort it would’ve taken to prevent it.

Review: I Did Not Buy This Ticket
I went into Time Galleon and Tiago Rech’s visual novel, I Did Not Buy This Ticket, newly out on the Nintendo Switch, with no expectations. Indeed, I had only heard about it when the game&#821…

So I've seen a few people hyping up that Elephant Graveyard video and I was like Ok seems interesting then I started watching it and realized it was a sequel so I went to the channel page to find the first video and, uh, these thumbnails are definitely genAI, right?

Update: I have, unsurprisingly, still been monitoring the Zombie Mango situation, and other than a 10-second tease at the end of a video 11 months ago there has been no new music from them. Instead they mostly put out YouTube Shorts featuring the old songs played over clips from TV shows.
Ok, I'm gonna stop now. This sucks hard, but hopefully there will be new music from Crow and Alex at some point. Not super interested in whatever Zombie Mango puts out.

Thought of something that stressed me out then got distracted and forgot it so now I’m stressed but I can’t remember why.

As a fan of the album this is already where I was at with the musical. If Orpheus isn’t such a good singer that he can harmonize with himself then what are we even doing here.
Love being a Hadestown fan, love having the music in my favourite musical get progressively worse and more generic every time someone stages it. By 2030 it will just straight up sound like Dear Evan Hansen

It's (the day after) Bandcamp Friday!

Except the four things I bought are a pre-order, a tribute album that would take me multiple days to get through, a remix EP for an album I haven't listened to yet, and an ELP remix that I think I added to my cart as a joke and I wish I hadn't.
It's time for Friday Music Tune Time Day.

Today's randomly selected album from my backlog is...Andy Shauf—Wilds (2021)

Road to Gehenna from The Talos Principle. Love the vibes of the main game but the DLC is a much richer text, and gives you an actually meaningful choice at the end.
what's everyone's favorite dlc? this morning i was thinking about the mass effect one where there were a bunch of reapers in the ocean for some reason

Watching Just Shoot Me! and I wasn't prepared for how often Trump gets mentioned. Hopefully he's like the Reagans in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and doesn't actually show up. Unlike Trump in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Also it’s not about how Christmas is this wonderful time of kindness and charity, it’s about how doesn’t it suck that Christmas is the one time we’ve set aside for kindness and charity.
Certainly this is the fate of many well-known works, but A Christmas Carol suffers from being so successful that people remember its iconography instead of its argument. It is a furious moral indictment written by a man confronting the staggering wealth inequality of industrialized London.

In middle/high school I would’ve been the one arguing that AI could be conscious because aren’t humans really just code too, and my mom would’ve been the one saying that human consciousness is more than that, which an algorithm can’t possibly capture. Slightly disturbing that we’ve now switched.

Or, counterpoint, what if their vast wealth was seized and used to fund climate reform projects in order to avert or at least mitigate the climate crisis that they are in part responsible for? Instead of literally doing Fallout.
This is where the 1% will go to restart civilization after a nuclear attack.

But it for me thinking: what if the uber wealthy built these bunkers for more people — and not for nuclear attacks but for the climate crisis that will get us all — instead of trying to leave the planet?

Oh, for the record, I did beat it without using a Perfect Mode attack. I got a game over when I was training up the three characters I never used because the game kept splitting the party without warning and I could not find any reliable information on whether that was going to happen again
Like I’m fairly certain I will beat this game having never gotten a game over. In fact, I’m reasonably confident I’ll beat without ever using a Perfect Mode attack.

The problem with this prompt is I assume that most movies are intending to be entertaining or at least interesting. So if I see a vague, open-ended synopsis like this, I'm actually more intrigued because I'm assuming it's obfuscating hijinks, magic, great acting/writing, or some combination thereof.

Rolled credits on Third Age. By which I mean I went to the “More” section of the main menu and selected “Credits” because they don’t actually roll credits at the end of the game.
The ultimate in mystifying item distribution: for completing Minas Tirith Evil Mode you are rewarded with two weapons for Eaoden, one of which is simply objectively better.
I feel like I'm being very negative about this game, and that's mostly because it's not that fun to replay and has a lot of terrible design choices.

I might have more to say later but right know I’m remembering when my friend and I looked up Tim Curry on IMDb and I’m realizing he was in so many things that I’ll probably be saying “Oh shit it’s Tim Curry!” for years to come. So that’s nice.

At Helms Deep Gamling says “I see some of you are from Rohan” <only one of us is from Rohan> “Our people have suffered great loss perhaps this will lessen the sting” and then gives you a weapon for Morwen, who is from Gondor.
