It's Monday! Let's start week off with a map & some eels!

Here is John Speed's 1611 map, "The Kingdome of Great Britaine and Ireland." There are Dutch eel ships on this map. Can you find them? (the answer is at the end of the thread)

Wait, you ask...WTF is an eel ship? 1/5

110 years ago, on the 29th of September 1916, oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller became the first American billionaire. This happened five years after the Supreme Court had ruled that Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company company had illegally monopolized the oil industry. #otd #history 🗃️

You (we all) should care for eels because one of the most fascinating animals on Earth will disappear simply because a luxury market, dressed-up in tradition, does not care about extinction and society is unable to stop the rich destructive whims
Please, do care

Eels have fascinated us for ages - now we need to stop eating them
No one would think of eating an endangered animal like the Iberian lynx. So why do we still eat eels?

It wasn’t enough that a targeted campaign was used to defame and damage me by deliberately mischaracterising one cartoon. Now those same obsessive bullies are using other people’s posts about that cartoon to destroy their careers. Are we living under the Stasi now?

The best piece of news, after a relentless and brutal attempt to destroy a decent person and make an example of her, to scare others to silence.
No thanks to the mainstream, which said and did nothing to defend the principle of press freedom and her right to report fact and express an opinion.

It's 1100. You're a peasant in Harmston, England. Congrats! It's a fine place to live. But at what cost?

Eels. That's what. Each spring, the village owes Earl Hugh 75,000 eels in rent. So every fall your life becomes all about the eels.*

Welcome to Harmston. Here's your net.

God/Jesus: "Flatter me and I will save you."

Human: "Save me from what?"

God/Jesus: "Me."
“He takes your punishment upon Himself.”

Cool. Quick question: Who exactly is punishing us?

Christianity: God creates the rules, decides you’ve broken them, sentences you to eternal punishment, then offers to save you from the punishment he created.

That ends today.

There have been so many impeachable offenses, but lying about how you were a hero on a day that 2,753 people died in NYC in the 9/11 disaster—when you were on the other side of town, safely calling local media to brag about how you now had the tallest downtown building—is such a despicable one
