So, in the SAG-AFTRA video game strike of 2016--not the most recent one--SAG-AFTRA attempted to codify residuals to voice actors for games. The game companies--predictably--fought back against that.

To me this has been in the works for a while (we just called it outsourcing and ignored it while it affected more niche professions like 2D artists on large projects). And if we had solid guilds and a revenue model with residuals that support time spent between projects it might even be almost good!

I'm pretty far removed from the new Genshin drama because the last round I blocked anyone that gave me any kind of ick (mostly *phobia, rage baiting, misgendering, boot licking, and ableism) so I'm a little late to the party. This recent dustup feels like parasocial engagement farming misogynoir.

so back when Google Glass was a thing I was super interested in picking up a pair because I read that one could take pictures without having to move their arms, and it just so happens that I am unable to raise my hands any higher than my elbows

I think it’s also important to reinforce the mindset that a character can have multiple performers and they don’t just stop being that character when someone else becomes them

Absolutely. Especially because a big part of voice actors' livelihoods is running the convention circuit and continuing to embody that character for years. They can still do that, ofc, but it creates a degree of separation that will continue to grow. It deserves some amount of grief and mourning.
