a lot of parents are doll collectors. there is not really anything that pushes them to be anything else. all the institutions of society, all the laws, are built to provide structural support for that paradigm of parenting

i’ve got a new bit, now i just say “sorry i don’t speak chinese” in perfect chinese over and over until they get mad and hang up
because of my last name i often get calls from scammers who ask "do you speak chinese" and i repeat "english only please" until they get angry. then they insult me in chinese and i say "thank you, have a nice day" in perfect chinese and get to hear 3-4 seconds of glorious yelling before i hang up

on the fitness subreddits people often ask ‘what’s your pet peeve at the gym’ and there’s always at least one man saying ‘when women wear distractingly tight clothes.’ if you’re a man popping problem boners at the sight of gym-appropriate leggings then i’m not sure you should be allowed in society

You know when public attention can reverse a prosecutorial decision like this you almost get the sense that the decision to shrug it off in the first place was not based on an assessment of the quality of the evidence so much as an assessment of the seriousness of the crime.
