@briw74.bsky.social @rufustsuperfly.bsky.social evening gents. For all of his scenery chewing in Jaws, I think this bookends nicely with Russia / Love showing Shaw's ability as a screen precence. Keen to hear your view
#TodayInHistory: 🎬 #OnThisDay 52 years ago, the film “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three” opened in theaters. Now heralded as a classic, the 1974 action crime caper flick is the original film by this name. It was also remade in 1998 for TV and as a major motion picture in 2009.“

Seeing the same visceral reactions from #ManCity fans as did from Chelsea fans when theyn realised what had paid for success. The feeling of entitlement and betrayal. Anger focused on PL / authorities. Interesting #PR / #media dynamic (1)

Those of us of non english or perhaps non British heritage, however close either by proximity or history to the UK, would suggest that, "it never went away, you know"

@geofflemon.bsky.social am a long time listener to TFW & have always enjoyed your work across multiple channels. Very much enjoyed your unvarnished opinion on the calamity of farragiste politics and how it has bumped up against cricket in multiple ways.

Should be on proper TV. It wasn't that easy to find. #rugby #redroses #ENGvAUS

It won't be long before there are far, far fewer people who find this funny than those who ask, "what is that photo"?

Jack may have a point. I'm a Camra member who likes Tolkien, can cook of many things, but I do make a decent lasagne. However, I find my Rhone / Tuscan wine & travel cost outweighs almost anything else.
Also be real here, CAMRA is the most left-leaning LibDem Dad thing ever. The typical real ale drinker also likes Star Trek, Warhammer, has all the Discworld books in paperback with faded spines, can cook well but pretty much only makes lasagna and a decent Sunday Roast, and steam engines.

Don't know whether it's because I'm a Brit of Irish heritage, or because I studied 20th Century history, or because my MA dissertation was on intelligence in COIN, with specific consideration of NI, but the seemingly collective "we are ok with uniformed groups threatening violence" worries me

90 years ago, Parliament responded to the rise of Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts by passing the Public Order Act, which banned political uniforms, private militias and the threat of force for political objects.

The debates make very resonant reading today. Here's the Liberal Robert Bernays. (Short 🧵)

I'm a middle aged / class straight brit-irish white guy with no experience of the profession of academia. So I didn't comment on it then and won't now. But as a comms professional i recognise why people communicate and engage newsjack and I hope they shut the fuck up for a little while
Well. Glad you had your fun, I guess.

The Bobby Sands comparison is highly amusing in various ways, and is indicative of the hole that Farage and his advisors have dug for themselves. Truly appaling #comms / #PR. As someone who's done this for challenging clients, sometimes there's only damage limitation.

Austria = Kaiser Sose. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was making us all think that they weren't intimately involved in the planning and execution of the the greatest crimes of the 20th Century.

Zhukov was the most consequential General Officer of WW2. Jason Isaacs played him more as Rokosovski but suspect he doesn't know that. Far less glamourous and significantly earthier - but also deeply intelligent and strategic.

The joy of exiting the EU with new border control systems. No pleading for special status, but it might be worth some air/ports investing in additional logistics? Hopefully just teething issues - but suspect some places will always be swamped.

For all of Jeff G's sexy hand acting, agree that SN's role is absolutely vital for us to believe in the dinosaurs. The velocoraptaurs are the nastiest monsters since xenomorphs. Sam Jackson is great as the grounded, exasperated engineer
Jurassic Park doesn’t work without Sam Neill‘s note-perfect performance in the scene where they first see the Brachiosaurus. you completely forget that he’s looking off-screen at nothing real, that man 100% convinces you he’s witnessing a live dinosaur and that all of his dreams are coming true.
