it’s bad, actually, that much of the industry is gatekept by people whose standard for hiring a woman is “are you a Cool Girl who is into weird men doing sex stuff at her all the time?”
Women trying to succeed in Silicon Valley AI and effective altruist spaces are reporting feeling serious social pressure to attend sex parties - where people have reported being sexually assaulted, like below.

Events like Aella’s “Slutcon,” which is happening again this weekend.

Hello! Please consider helping our little feminist collective keep going?
So: we're not promising huge growth or new initiatives during this subscription drive. We're working for longevity and sustainability, so we're offering paid readers the chance to get all three editions of The Flytrap every week for 40% off until 9/24.

The Flytrap has grown steadily over the past two years. We launched in October '24 with our flagship Tuesday newsletter, featuring worker-owners writing about pop culture, politics, games, books, and much more, through an intersectional + expansive feminist lens.

You know, the pandemic would have sucked enough without it radicalizing some of the country's worst people and getting them into politics.

Initially I was frustrated with the rise of self-checkout but I appreciated how stores passed the savings on to me rather than pocket the money, fire armies of workers & make me do a job I suck at. It’s also why I’m optimistic about AI! I have been kicked in the head by several horses.

When I babysit little kids they often want me to give their toys a kiss goodnight and tuck them in to bed, too. This is that, but for adults. Except no kid ever tried to convince me Teddy was smart, or could do my job. Still have to indulge the fantasy to keep the peace.

The Greens supermarket policy, and Labour’s dismal performance this week reminded me of this banger.
went down to the centrist convention. they’re all shaking and crying, I heard one guy say “I’m starting to think a better world IS possible.” the lady next to him slapped him in the face

Not to be some wild-eyed innocent, but I think it should be slightly bigger news that The Lancet have crunched the numbers and found that Musk's USAID cuts will kill 14 million people. And that's just by 2030.

That's 9,600 people a day, every day, until the next world cup rolls around.
New estimate of Elon Musk’s death toll just dropped www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

"but no one seems to have any bright ideas how to fix this sorry mess".

The Greens have comprehensive policy statements publicly available on their website, but cleary Verity would rather pull shit out of her arse than do the bare minimum research.

You never have to hand it to Verity.

I would hazard a guess that the odds of the cop McSkimming's victim allegedly harassed being as dodgy as the rest of his crooked peers is significantly greater than zero. It's a fucking disgrace that the Judicial system enables crooked cops to do further harm.

Absolutely *fascinating* the illustration here of the difference in priorities between NZME investigative journos (who are pretty universally excellent) and NZME gallery luminaries. Look what each thinks the big ACT news is.

I know who I think serves us better.

A multiculturalism worthy of the name, 1 that engages minority communities as internally plural & politically alive, with their own struggles over power.
I have often said this. I find liberals performing “let’s sing kumbaya” whiteness to be some of the greatest enablers in the rise of fascism. Here’s my analysis of The Spinoff’s coverage of Kia Ora Modi. culture-centered.blogspot.com/2026/07/beau...
