While I try to not get politics mixed in on this account, politics do mix into it by force. This is something that cannot go silently - and no major TV station or newsletter here will cover it so - it must be talked about. It must be opposed.
This is a mass surveillance and population control.

Reminder!

There are still many censorship bills that will try to be pushed out, likely KOSA, The KIDS Act and more coming!

Do what you can to call your senates and Reps to say "NO" to bad internet bills.

With foreign censoring enforcing on all of us, we hope that the GRANITE Act gets passed!

EU Kids Act Won’t Keep The Internet Accountable And Trustworthy
The EU Commission draft law to restrict young people’s access to the internet that it presented last week will come at a high cost: it will put online services behind age gates, expand the use of intrusive age verification, and undermine the privacy of all users. The EU Kids Act aims to protect children from...

The bill has been opened to feedback. Rather than dooming about the proposal, you can tell them exactly how you feel about the act here. ec.europa.eu/info/law/bet...

With how much of an uphill battle Chat Control is having, you should never assume it's worthless to fight these draconian bills.

It appears first time in my life a PSU died in my main PC. Surprisingly, without any drama. It just did not start this morning. At least 3 days running on backup machine then, I just hope drives are fine as I had week old backups...

So apparently the EU KIDS Act stands for "Keeping Internet Digital Spaces Accountable and Trustworthy" ... Act.

Surely it should therefore be KIDSAT Act?

My pet theory is that "KIDS" in this case actually stands for "Killing Industry, Destroying Services [and make life worse for everyone]" Act.

Following the reveal of the potentially devastating EU Kids Act, we'd like to remind you that a 1st step to combat the excessive attack on privacy and freedom is signing the political instrument of an ECI: citizens-initiative....

Politicians in power hate that we have free online access. They want to know who is posting what, and they want to know it in real-time. We must fight back against their obsessive, Orwellian control no matter what it takes, especially for the safety of future generations. #savespeech
VPN bans are a direct response to age-verification. Legislators are frustrated that people are getting around their surveillance, but rather than rethink their strategy, they're doubling down and banning VPNs.

Fight the Flock-ing of the internet.
The connection between online ID check policies and restricting VPN use is an unholy marriage. Rather than admit that censorship and social media bans doesn't keep us safe, lawmakers have put VPNs on the chopping block.

I keep shouting about it for months, but this will effectively destroy video games industry, the games itself and it's pushing for age verification on the operational system level.
We need to shout about it, we need to oppose it, we have to fight against this.

This is what happens when censorship that starts with online adult content is allowed to proceed unchecked. A total violation of EVERYONE'S freedom of expression. #savespeech #stopcensorship
Everyone, MasterCard and Visa are at it again with their crackdown on free expression... only this time they're targeting Pixiv. The censorship attacks have now expanded to mainstream magna on PixivFANBOX, proving us right once again that censorship will NEVER stop at the "icky" stuff. #savespeech

And now we have the EU KIDS act in the EU threatening to impose this on *every* internet platform, videogames included.

As someone who has made great friends over the web and struggles to find any where I live, they are isolating me. And forcing me to give up my privacy to prove I'm an adult.
Age verification is an egregious privacy violation, an inexcusable form of surveillance, and… it’s also voodoo bullshit that doesn’t work. It’s one of the reasons I’m proudest to support @eff.org, who have been leading the fight against the horrible practice for years: www.eff.org/issues/age-v...

It's adults that would be prosecuted for bypassing age verification... which just makes it illegal for adults to view the internet without being surveilled. They are removing privacy and what information you are allowed to access, stop letting them blatantly lie about 'protecting kids'
Michigan, Wisconsin and Utah all tried to pass VPN restrictions this past year. We should expect even more this year: I'm already hearing about new bills being planned in other states, including one that would make it a felony to bypass age-verification using VPN.

This isn't about protecting kids.

Tomorrow, Discord will place everyone into an age group using account signals. They claim 90% of users won't have to confirm their age.

They are also introducing new verification methods if you do need to verify that you are an adult, including Credit Cards and App Stores.

I know I already spilled my beans about it, but here is a very good, in detail analysis of the issue at hand. A risk to all of us, not only in EU. What we must oppose and fight against.
The EU Kids Act is going to force identity verification on every adult
Von der Leyen’s age tiers of 13, 15 and 18 can’t be enforced without verifying everyone’s age. Robust age checking is identity verification.
