Presumably once gilt yields have dropped, growth has surged and tax revenues leapt, you can reinstate the welfare spending that Haldane implies must be cut -- in same way that we did after Osborne generated a boom using precisely this policy mechanism.
Andy Haldane - for it is he - calls for public spending to be slashed, as that would lower yields and thereby reap a “growth dividend”.

There are, genuinely, a half dozen or more thinktanks which are govt aligned/very close (Fabians, IPPR, ThinkLabour, NEF, Resolution Foundation etc) to govt.
The issue is not that there isnt space for this sort of thinking. Its that McSweeney didnt like the answers on tax/immigation etc

I do worry that a lot (not all, a lot) of the left somehow lost the ability to talk about the non-macro policy benefits of public spending at some point in the 2010s.
The case for the NHS doing more knee replacements or paying teachers more isn’t that it is part of an expansionary fiscal policy.
