It's that time of year again when we need to remind National Trust members that Restore Trust is a dark-money funded right-wing astroturfing entryist outfit.

Please vote, and vote for literally anyone else.
Support the National Trust by voting for Council members by 11:59pm on 30 October 2026.

Quickvote is convenient if you're short of time or worried about inadvertently voting for Restore Trust's Bonigala, Cristea, Goldman, Mealing or Omrani.

In our often bad times, the Trust's doing good things.
Today marks three years since the iconic Sycamore Gap tree was illegally felled.

We're pleased to bring you new images which reveal how the stump is growing, a sure sign that the tree is in recovery.

Ninety years ago today, Oswald Mosley tried to march his Blackshirts through the Jewish East End. 🧵

He had thousands of uniformed fascists behind him and 6,000 police clearing the way. But the people of the East End got there first.

Nigel Farage has not just made the UK ugly.

He has made many British people comfortable with showing just how ugly they’ve always been… 😡🤬

Unfortunately for Lowe, we have repeatedly exposed the neo-Nazis, fascists and ethnonationalists within the party. 🧵

Jonathan is paraphrasing obviously but he's not distorting what a UK govt minister is saying. Absolutely shameful
"In order to deliver the PM's promise to save social care we need a permanent class of indentured migrant workers without labour rights".

Mahmood's rationale remains the same.

Fewer (legal, working) migrants => less racism

Nothing to do with integration. No evidence.

I'd add this *doesn't* show she hates immigrants (FTAOD don't think she does).

It shows her contempt/distrust/fear of ordinary Brits.
An exchange with Lewis Atkinson MP over whether the anxieties of those who don't know what rules/timelines they will face is bad for integration. The Home Secretary does not think so, on the grounds that the numbers of people who came in (and who are in that position) was high ...

Even the GB News presenter is thrown by his guest's suggestion that all asylum seekers be castrated.

This is what happens when the narrative marches ever rightwards. It drifts out of everyone's control and requires individuals involved to suddenly realise 'no wait, f***, that's mad'.

this isn't conjecture. This is the EXACT reason why one of the quickest ways to shut down a fash with a camera is to start shouting:

"this video is brought to you by SquareSpace!"

INSTANT demonitization. Because the streaming/social platforms already protect their advertisers more than the state.

A personal story about that phrase “young men of fighting age” applied to asylum seekers.

As many of you know I took in a young Ukrainian woman under the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

As part of that process, soon after she arrived we were visited by the local authority rep and a Fire Brigade rep.
I'm not surprised but I'm truly disgusted that this narrative of "dangerous fighting age men posing a threat to women and children" is genuinely doing the rounds on the media with almost no push back at all.

This is 1930s level stuff.

Sweden's Social Democrats on target to get 99 seats in parliament (out of 349). That's their worst result since 1928. In March, Denmark's Social Democrats had their worst election result since 1903. What to they have in common? Mimicking "hard line" right-wing policies. It's a recipe for disaster.

According to the FT, Orr is acting as a live-in-landlord-cum-cult-leader to Cambridge students including those under his own supervision, whilst receiving formal complaints about his behaviour, and boasting publicly how the university is a recruiting ground for the party he might be doing crime for
