No. I don't make decisions. I let the wind carry me.
Do you ever just sit and think about all the shitty decisions you’ve made to get to this point? If not, it’s a literal fuck ton.

The Roxy in Wellington is playing one of the funniest movies in many years this Friday, Hundreds of Beavers. Highly recommended by me.

Halfway through Dirty Work, going to bed and will finish in the morning. Jordan Williams doesn't seem like a very nice person.

That recent documentary on Anderton was excellent. I saw people complain that it didn't include enough from people who disagree with him, but that is what like all mainstream news outlets are for.

This is true, but it only works if they actually do appeal to centrists instead of, increasingly, to nobody.
If the Left bloc doesn’t have a centrist party, loads of votes will be lost to the Right.

Is that what you're wishing for?

Yes it's boring and annoying but it's Labour job to appeal to centrists & hoover up their votes if a left coalition is going to get across the line in November.

Instead of making the third filmed adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist, Mike Flanagan should make the first filmed adaptation of James Herbert's 1975 novel The Fog.

Sometimes what looks like vandalism is just making an editorial correction, e.g. the billboard on the Hutt Motorway that someone changed from "No New Taxes" to "10 New Taxes"
Seeing a heap of posts from RW politicians about signs being vandalised and how that’s not how we should democracy (and yes, vandalising things is bad) but nothing from RW politicians asking what they’re doing that makes them so clearly unpopular that they’re being called awful things by the public

Finished my 100th book of 2026 the other day, The Route of Ice and Salt by José Luis Zárate. It retells the voyage of the Demeter in Dracula from the POV of the unnamed Russian captain, who Zárate portrays as a gay man viewing the experience through the lens of the homophobia he experienced.

I know it's been a few years, but what soulless bureaucrat decided to rename the Wellington Museum of City and Sea to Wellington Museum?

Trains in Wellington are expensive, but they're on on time, right? No. Are they comfortable and spacious? Uh-uh. Well are they at least seldom cancelled? Listen buddy,

"Did Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem meet on Vicky Christina Barcelona?"

@josholson.bsky.social please let me recommend Jamon Jamon to you, they already have amazing chemistry in that in 1992. It's co-written & directed by Bigas Luna, who had made Anguish and it is so much fun.

I just recorded a two and a half hour podcast guest spot talking about Barb Wire (1996), who would have thought I had so much to say about that movie?

I'll pick up any book by or about an Aotearoa political figure if it's cheap enough, even if I find them loathsome. Found this one for $1 at a book fair some years ago, and just opened it for the first time. Prebble had recently won the Wellington Central electorate over Labour's Alick Shaw.

Never thought I'd voluntarily read another book by an economist, but Escape From Capitalism: Economics is Political, and Other Liberating Truths by Clara Mattei was an inspiring & surprisingly breezy read, basically a manifesto for alternatives to austerity. Can't wait to dig into The Capital Order.
