Oh, this is gonna be bad for NZ. I don't think we buy diesel from the US, but if they institute an export ban prices are going to get even worse #nzpol
‘Dammit, something has to happen’: White House preparing plan for 90-day diesel exports ban
Some GOP lawmakers and oil industry reps are still fighting to stave off an announcement.

I've just gone and topped up my petrol. Might be wise for folks to find a 24 hour station and do the same before tomorrow morning.

Iran has placed the IRGC, police and armed forces on the highest level of alert.

Looks like something might be kicking off.

As this break draws to an end, it's been nice. The competing supermarkets policies made it past my proverbial filter along with skyrocketing fuel prices and the Ed Sheeran thing, but otherwise I feel the inconsequential noise has largely been avoided.

Not bad for a political tragic. #nzpol
I'm checking out of following politics for the next week. I feel like I need a break from it.

A year ago on 10 September 2025, I bought this exact 2 TB SATA SSD for NZ $189.

Today, it's more than twice the price. Its effect on memory costs has been observed for months now, but #fuckAI

This would sound reassuring except for the fact in the last 24 hours the Houthis gained control of the strait leading from the Red Sea into the Indian Ocean *and* they have attacked the Saudi East-West Pipeline in multiple locations, disabling it.

I'm more pessimistic than a week ago.

Why officials are 'reasonably confident' of avoiding fuel supply shocks
Regardless of the uncertainties surrounding the Iran war and the US administration, New Zealand officials six months on are hopeful - confident, even - that supply chains will hold. In the first of th...

So it turns out the Iran War is still a thing and oil prices are shooting up yet again. But now all the safeguards like China's switch to its strategic reserves have now been exhausted. The El Niño food crisis will be exacerbated by diesel prices. #nzpol
Iran War Updates: Oil tops $100 per barrel as U.S. fighter jets damaged in Iranian strikes on Jordan
The price of crude oil hit a 15-week high after the U.S. said it blew up five more Iranian oil tankers, triggering retaliation from Tehran.

Dunedin Public Libraries now offers access to a database called NewsBank. Which looks like a successor to Newztext. With fulltext access across the major dailies, regional, and community newspapers from 1994 to today.

Ideal if you want to check the political receipts, so to speak.

The worst part of this is I absolutely believe in my bones that a fucking Stuff snap poll probably DID make this decision for them #nzpol
And National gets to dunk on Labour. What a masterclass from Hipkins. Shown absolutely no leadership, National get their policy through and attack him for being weak. Incredible.

Disappointed but not surprised at Labour's capitulation. I suspect they want to remove a potential avenue of attack from National.

I still maintain mandating points of friction like ending the infinite scroll and defaulting to subscribed feeds would be better.

I emailed my MP, urging Labour to reject National's social media ban.

I believe it breaches privacy rights. As well as the NZBoRA's freedoms of thought, conscience and religion; expression; and association.

A better option would mandate friction into the design these platforms.

I think @mozilla.org goofed with @firefox.com and their latest update. I'm getting "storage full" alerts on both my Android tablet and my Windows PC.

Hoping they squash this bug quickly, it's the kind of thing that can drive a user away.
