It's why a lot of Americans assume this is some silly tiff between politicians, and not a massive shift in how Canadians perceive the USA and our relationship with it.

One of Canada's advantages is that we know a lot about the US. We follow their news and politics, get their TV channels, travel there. But Americans know nothing about us. They don't understand our politics, history or values. They constantly misjudge us, but we understand them completely. #cdnpoli
