I have publicly criticized my fair share of the weather enterprise as I tried to make a name for myself, especially when I was younger. I wish I knew then what I know now.
And this not-so-vague vague thread is not directed at any one person or entity. But rather a reflection come full circle.

I’ve been trying to formulate opinions about this for a while. I still don’t know how to communicate what I am experiencing, thinking, & feeling. Lot’s of nuance.

Big REFS Transition Project 1 (spc-post v3.0) is done. spc-post is SPC's suite of guidance and model post processing. It runs on WCOSS2, the NWS supercomputer that also runs the US forecast model suite. Today, I froze the spc-post v3.0 code in preparation for the 30-day test period. 🧵

For what it is worth, I am working in my spare time to reproduce a replacement version that initially will be as close to a one-to-one replacement as I can. This will then hopefully set us up for more features in the future. We shall see how this goes …

Tim has been under the gun for much of the year with various deliverables. We are very lucky to have him working with us. I know I am grateful/thankful to work with him.

I know there’s like, constant bad stuff going on in the world right now & it can be overwhelming.
I was not prepared for what it’s like to have so many *good* things going on that it, too, becomes overwheling. SO MANY COOL THINGS that I cannot wait to share, but am going to be disciplined & wait.

Thick smoke impacts other weather phenomena, too. Thick smoke reduces incoming solar radiation, which keeps temperatures lower than they otherwise would achieve. This in turn reduces the atmospheric buoyancy (all things equal), which impacts storm development, intensity, and longevity.

Today, I hit a pretty big life moment and got engaged to my best friend and favorite person in the world. Got so nervous that I accidentally placed myself behind the railing. Oh well 🙃😂. Celebrated with a lovely picnic in Central Park!
