I accept that coffee shops are now called diners for reasons not worth going into here. But ironic, faux-vintage diners are not worthy of the name. And don’t get me started on fake speakeasies.

She lied without thinking, latched onto various trends. She wrote about a world peopled with tribes of “hitmen” who didn’t do other crimes, they simply offered murder for hire. She was simple, Justine realized—simple, sweet, and inartistic. But people like that could cause a lot of trouble.

I got a chicken.
