Our society's unfathomable cruelty to homeless people is not just morally unjustifiable, but more expensive than housing people would be.

In the 1780s and 90s George Washington kept his Philadelphia-based household staff enslaved despite Pennsylvania’s gradual abolition laws by trafficking them out of the state and back into the state to reset the clock every 6 months despite the fact that he had publicly supported the laws.
This is wild. In late 2025, federal and state officials kept a Mexican woman in custody for almost a month by repeatedly rebooking her just before her 72-hour time limit ran out. www.propublica.org/article/immi...

Breaking my heart this morning:
“Fitting ankle monitors on noncitizens without a criminal history who remain in compliance with their immigration cases has little precedent.”
