Active travel is a public health issue.

We really really need politicians at all levels to understand that building decent bike lanes won't just help a few Lycra-clad blokes: it will have a massive impact on people's health long term.
Can anyone suggest somewhere in/near Sheffield to buy clipless cycling shoes? Not road shoes: as close to normal trainers as possible. I have narrow feet, so would prefer to try them on. Can't find anywhere in Sheffield with much in stock (unless I've missed somewhere).

Very glad that my physiotherapy appointment was this morning, and I was home before storm Boylo (or whatever it's called) arrived.

The tip run and charity shop run will have to wait, cos I ain't going out in this disgusting weather: not even in the car.

THE SMOKING BAN

Going for a night out, or even just to the pub, and not having to:
- take my asthma inhaler with me
- dose up with antihistamines
- throw all clothes straight in the wash when returning home
- shower before going to bed to reduce the effect on my eczema
Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

In an ideal world, everyone would follow the rules. But with limited resources, police rightly focus on major causes of harm; last year, 364 pedestrians were killed, almost all of them hit by motor vehicles.

In comparison, more pedestrians are killed by cows than cyclists.

Looking for recommendations for a replacement front bike light to supplement the built in light. Ability to switch between constant & flashing would be good.

Current light (Trek Ion RT 200) is getting a bit glitchy, randomly switching off or refusing to switch between modes.

Current light:

Low Traffic Neighbourhoods - 'more research need'..

Well from 2022 to 2025, funded by the NIHR, we (& colleagues) did that research.

And we have 10(!!) peer reviewed articles so far, with more on the way.

Here's a summary of our papers so far (all open access so get reading):

May I ask you to read and reflect on this article. My family come from Aberfan and I would have been in the school under the slag on that day had we not moved to the English Midlands. The community still fights for justice and for us to remember. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

This is weird because we were told that autonomous vehicles would always follow the rules?

A few years ago the shouty local taxi drivers were saying that it would be too expensive to switch to EVs, and 🙂‍↔️ they're all using hybrids and EVs.

Next it'll be the big trucks and road mending vehicles.
My neighborhood is getting major street resurfacing in Utrecht's Low Emission Zone (LEZ).

Utrecht makes an exception for gas-powered heavy road maintenance vehicles within the LEZ, so I'm super-impressed by how much of the road construction fleet is is fully electric including this asphalt roller!

Thank you for all the thoughts and good wishes over the last few days: they were much appreciated.

I am so very very glad to have husband home after a very long & stressful five and a half days.

After ruling out all the other possibilities, they've concluded it was an unusual migraine.

The LP is clear! No virus! Husband can go home!!!

The question remains as to what this was: having ruled out encephalitis, I think they're putting it down to an unusual migraine with unusually slow recovery.

Also joyful.

So joyful.
When Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens begins playing “Old Corn Liquor,” a traditional Black American folk tune, acclaimed Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man recognizes similarities to Chinese pentatonic music and spontaneously joins in.
The joy on their faces says it all.

Imagine the howls of outrage if anyone proposed a pause on new motor traffic infrastructure until more drivers followed the Highway Code.

Normally I cycle to the hospital where I work. But as husband is currently an inpatient, I've been catching the bus. This gives me the option of a bus or taxi home, should they decide to discharge him. No fighting for a parking space.
Why not a bike? It was pouring cold rain last night and I wanted to go make her soup after a long day. Bussed to her place with a Dutch oven and ingredients.

Transportation freedom means having multiple affordable convenient options to be able to choose the right tool for the job.

Every time I see one of these whiny little baby questions about speed limits, I Google the MP's name and "speeding". Running at a 100% "yeah they got done for speeding" hit rate so far.
A question on #SpeedLimits #Birmingham tabled by Mr Richard Holden on 15-09-2026 has been answered by Justin Madders. https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questions/detail/2026-09-15/30026

Today has not gone as expected. Husband's boss phoned to say husband was very confused when he arrived at work, and couldn't really remember how he'd got there.

So after a call to 111, he was admitted to the hospital where I work, through the acute stroke assessment pathway.

Also Sheffield people!
SCC are now asking for views for the new 20mph policy.

You can say you’d like it everywhere if you want, here: haveyoursay.sheffield.gov.uk/20mph-zones/...

(As most injuries happen to people inside vehicles, I think it’s valuable on most roads whether or not there are many people outside vehicles.

When you visit your optician (@eyeyeopticians.bsky.social ) and they ask about health/medication changes. So you tell them about being diagnosed with ADHD and trying medication for it, and their response is along the lines of "well I did wonder, but I didn't feel it was appropriate to say anything"!
