This actually makes a lot of sense when you remember that Trump (a “wealthy” man) has famously been sued again and again for refusing to pay all manner of contractors and suppliers to his many ventures. Evidently he sees freely exchanging money for goods and services as “losing”.
Trump: "If we lose $50 billion a year with a country, and we say 'we're not going to trade with you anymore,' we don't lose $50 billion a year. It's very simple. Right?"

The details matter. We haven’t spent nearly enough time evaluating Carney’s strategies and absolutely no time considering alternatives. Instead, Canadians are left on the sidelines, guessing at what, exactly, Carney is doing, treated as spectators, not participants, in the country’s fate.

To pre-empt the “well, actually, Carney has shared his plan” folks, saying Canada should diversify its trade, build up its economy and improve the military isn’t a plan. It’s a direction that almost everyone recognized as important almost two years ago. But there are many different ways to do these.

There are any number of reasons to question each of Carney’s policies. But it might help to go to the root of the problem: Mark Carney is pre-empting an actual discussion of what kind of Canada Canadians want to build. This is not how our liberal democracy is supposed to work.

So if you cut off the source of deficits - trade with countries with which we have trade deficits - then there is less reason to raise interest rates and perhaps motivation to lower them!

It's relentless, though. "Better Carney than PP!" doesn't mean Carney gets to do whatever the fuck he wants on every front without any criticism because "PP is/would do worse."
You wouldn't shrug off someone stabbing you because the other guy would have shot you. Harm reduction doesn't cover it.
