As soon as she took her last breath, the partition between the kingdom of Richshire and my village extinguished like the magical fire, Essence, it was made of. Mother possessed the only fragment of our magic that we had left; the rest of it was being held captive in the Richshian Palace since our people were banished ten years ago. That morning, Mother had returned to take back what was stolen–only for Agatha to find her remains in the chambers of the King that took her life.

On a deep red square background with the shadow of roses and white rose embroideries in three corners. On the bottom left, there's a black silhouette of a young Black woman with curly hair and a flowing gown outlined in white. Character Name: Zoralynn ̶L̶a̶r̶k̶l̶o̶w̶ Richardson Character Description: A seamstress’ assistant disguised as a young lady of fortune in a courting competition to regain her people’s stolen magic and learn the identity of her mother’s murderer-while accidentally falling in love with Callum, in the process. Character Quote from 'THE ESSENCE THEY STOLE' by Q'Zion T. Gipson: 'I held his gaze for a second longer, one eye now hidden by a lock of his dark, tousled hair–expecting the familiar flame of revenge to light within it. I would know. That was what I felt as the princess treated me like a spec of dirt on the Palace’s polished floors. Something she could walk over. But instead, his look is different. Softer. One that reminded me of home.' On a deep red square background with the shadow of two crossed swords and white arrows embroideries in three corners. On the bottom left, there's a black silhouette of a young knight in his armor leaning on a sword outlined in white. Character Name: Callum Lazarus Character Description: The son of the Commander who was forced to become the eldest Princess’ suitor and the heir to Richshire’s throne. When he’s given a chance of freedom, the mysteriously beautiful Zoralynn teaches him the price of real love--and how much he’s willing to fight for it. Character Quote from THE ESSENCE THEY STOLE by Q'Zion T. Gipson: 'But I didn’t regret allowing my easel to cover half of the single suitcase we were allowed to bring to the Palace, the second home I’d already known. Or at least, I thought I did. There are some things, some people, too beautiful to not honor with art. Zoralynn Richardson is one of them.'
