An #agentsguide to UNDER THE PURPLE SKY, a character-driven soft sci-fi survival drama with a slow burn romantic subplot. Querying soon!

#WriteSky #Writing #WritingCommunity
An Agent's Guide to UNDER THE PURPLE SKY 114k | Adult | Soft Sci-Fi Survival Drama A rebellious academic, the galactic emperor she hates, and his most devoted soldier crash in the middle of a desert and must work together to return home—but the bond they forge along the way might not survive the return to civilization and the old world order. Excerpt Out here, in the vast, immeasurable desert, we are anchorless. We drift across the dunes, hoping that we can hold direction in the darkness. Stars may lead us, but they flicker in and out of existence like mirages. And what sustains us is what we can carry with us. Every sip of water is measuring our time. This long until we have none. This long until we perish. But it is, in a way, unfathomably beautiful. Once we get so far that the fire disappears behind the curve of the horizon, the sky is limitless. Stars twinkle above our heads like diamonds, the luminous Milky Way belt splitting the darkness into halves. The blackness of the night has purple undertones that fill my heart with the feeling of home. The air is cool, reinvigorating, and the breeze that dances at our backs sometimes acts like a tailwind, propelling us forward. The fine sand beneath our feet crumbles with each step, and here and there its layer becomes so thin that the black volcanic rock underneath makes it easier to walk. The desert is magnificent and boundless and I feel small and lost, and utterly, utterly delighted. Tropes and themes Distant Future Dystopian Empire vs. Solarpunk Colony Soft Sci-Fi Worldbuilding Wilderness Survival Character-driven Narrative Triple POV / Stylistic Separation Fire-Forged Friends Slow Burn Romance Subplot Conflict of Values Ideology vs. Humanity Linguistic Relativity Comps VANISHED BIRDS by Simon Jimenez - Deeply emotional core and slow-building relationships THE SPACE BETWEEN WORLDS by Micaiah Johnson - Gritty political divide between wealthy core residents and outcast societies PROJECT HAIL MARY by Andy Weir - Survival-driven bonds forged in isolation and despite misunderstandings LEVIATHAN WAKES by James S. Black and orange title slide reading “An Agent’s Guide to Child of Silk and Shield.” Three diagonal image panels show a woman’s eyes, a hand tangled in web-like strands, and a woman’s face. Adult fantasy with horror elements, 92,000 words. A black presentation slide with a large orange “PITCH” heading and the tagline, “Survive the madness. Preserve the kingdom. Salvage your savior’s sanity.” The synopsis introduces Lora, who wakes in a foreign kingdom and agrees to help Yaira, its last living swordswoman, control her madness. Lora discovers her mothers caused the kingdom’s suffering and must destroy it to save Yaira and free the kingdom. Three diagonal images show a ruined castle, a weathered mask, and dark stone steps. A slide titled “For Fans Of…” displays three book covers: *The Red Scholar’s Wake* by Aliette de Bodard, *The Starving Saints* by Caitlin Starling, and *This Gilded Abyss* by Rebecca Thorne. Captions highlight a sapphic romance with forced proximity, sapphic horror-inflected fantasy in a kingdom losing its sanity, and haunting and possession as suspense and danger mechanisms. A black slide with a large orange “EXCERPT” heading and a passage of dialogue between Lora and Yaira. Yaira describes losing control of her body and fears she will eventually be unable to resist the madness or keep from destroying Lora. Three diagonal images show a woman with pale, unfocused eyes, a hand caught in web-like strands, and a woman’s face in profile.

Presenting my Agent's guide for WE WERE ALL DEFECTS - A YA Dystopian Thriller with a delicious slow-burn romance.

#ya #querying #agentsguide
A four-panel collage for featuring glowing text, "An Agent's guide to: WE WERE ALL DEFECTS" and "YA Dystopian Thriller ★ 78k words". The image panels display a 1950s retro diner with pink and white checkered floors, a silhouetted couple leaning in for a kiss against a hazy pink background, a vintage photo of beauty pageant contestants in matching blue swimsuits, and a stark, dimly lit elevator shaft. A dark pink honeycomb background with glowing neon text titled "Welcome To Ruinview". Below the title is a split-flap counter showing "00" with blood splatters, labeled "DAYS SINCE LAST DROP:". The bottom half contains the text: The city of Ruinview has everything for those with total emotional control-the rest of society gets dropped underground through its pink plastic tiles. Alex's anxiety keeps her constantly hanging by a thread. But when she's faced with seventy-two hours to stop her mother's execution and save the boy she loves, she risks a dangerous plan to get them both out alive. The only problem is, the explosion it causes might collapse the whole surface. A graphic titled "The Reviews" on dark pink honeycomb background. Seven black hexagons contain quotes such as: "Gorgeous writing wrapped around an intriguing story," "Great worldbuilding and a strong concept," and "I ABSOLUTELY loved it. I could not put it down. I cried. I laughed. I swooned at the romance.". A Spotify scan code sits in the bottom right A graphic detailing "The Tropes" and "The Comps" against a dark pink honeycomb background. The listed tropes, separated by double-sided neon arrows, are "Friends-to-Lovers Slow-Burn," "Forced Toxic Positivity," and "Touch Her And You Die". The comparative titles section states the pitch "Blends the weaponized psychological control of Stephanie Oakes' THE MEADOWS" with "the survival-forged slow-burn romance of Jill Tew's AN OCEAN APART," and is accompanied by the cover art for both novels.

THE LAST NIGHT OF HOUSE GRAVES | Adult Gothic Fantasy Horror

The heirs of an aristocratic magical bloodline throw one final party beneath chandeliers made of bone, convinced their magic will hold until dawn.

It will not.

Querying soon. Excited for #dvpit tomorrow! #agentsguide
The image of Mont St Michel with a dancing skeleton overlaid. Text reads: An introduction to THE LAST NIGHT OF HOUSE GRAVES. An Adult Fantasy Horror, 95k Words Old anatomical drawings of bodies with the skeleton showing beneath. A lace doily is placed over the top. Text reads: Pitch - By dawn, everyone in House Graves will be dead. On the eve of a revolution, the last heirs of House Graves throw a final, glittering party as the tides rise around their island estate, cutting them off from the mainland—and from the magicless masses waiting to storm them at first light. Silvy has spent a year secretly working with the revolutionaries gathering on shore, certain she can destroy her family's corruption without destroying her sisters. Isould is poised to inherit the House, but as she prepares to celebrate her engagement, she has already given her loyalty, and her bed, to the authoritarian leader promising to restore their family's glory. And Merien sits in her wheelchair, her family's living proof of the miracles their bone magic can achieve, even as her wound begins to blacken. As the hours count down and the tide recedes, their alliances fracture, their guests become collateral, and the house that has always fed on the Graves family's dead begins to hunger for the living. With revolutionaries waiting on shore, the sisters must choose between the causes they would die for, the family they would kill for, and the sisters they cannot bear to lose. Purple mist over water. Book covers for The Starving Saints, Innamorata, and The Poet Empress shown, as well as the poster for Succession. Text reads: For fans of: standalone fantasy-horror, claustrophobic setting, body-based magic, toxic family legacy, gothic, brutal fantasy politics, corrupt political maneuverings Image of Mont St Michel with dancing skeletons framing the text. Text reads: Excerpt - It is not truly a tale until someone is stripped from life to bone. Twelve hours of deceit, of treachery, of death, and the horror that entails. One final party, before the tides of revolution stormed the country of Verane. Indulge me for a moment. Relax somewhere safe. Return to a time of aristocracy, of manners and lineage. Can’t you see it? Let House Graves sit once more on that island in the bay, windows illuminated from within, a party imminent. It is filled with conversations and laughter, and soon thereafter, it will be filled with screams. House Graves will be gone again in no time at all.

an agents guide to The Brightest Star in the Sky. adult sci-fi fantasy, lgbtq+ Twelve years ago, Asteria escaped from a research facility and became the God-King: the most powerful bitch in the galaxy. Calypso Atticas, adopted daughter of the heroes who failed to stop Asteria, has spent the last twelve years hiding from the God-King and her cult. When Calypso infiltrates Asteria’s spaceship temple as a prisoner, she must survive deadly “bloodgames” to prevent Asteria’s universe-consuming ascension. But her mission to save the galaxy might end up costing her her heart. perfect for fans of THE STARS ARE LEGION (toxic, complex sapphic romance); SOME DESPERATE GLORY (queer, dark tones and spaceships); The Locked Tomb series (magic lesbians in space); Mad Max Fury Road (yes it's a cult but make it Aesthetic); Borderlands series (futuristic mayhem, space travel, and magic) adult sapphic space fantasy / 99k words / first in a planned duology / dual-POV First words: The sooner Asteria accomplished what she'd come to the middle of fucking nowhere at the ass-end of the galaxy for, the sooner she could do something more interesting than overseeing her peons as they prepared for the live-streamed celebration. Like taunting her soon-to-be-prisoners. Fate had handed her both the means to her ultimate ascension and a way to keep the fools who’d once tried to stop her out of the way. With any luck, they’d start begging for their lives soon. And, of course, she was a merciful god. She’d give them their lives. She had their cage picked out, after all.
