She was a prolific inventor, nearly 110 total, & she held 49 patents. Her first was a vacuumed-sealed ice cream freezer in 1912.

#OnThisDay September 22nd, 1791, Michael Faraday was born.
Faraday is best known for his work on electricity & magnetism. He is known as the father of the electric generator, motor, transformer, & electrolysis.

He was mostly self-educated, reading books as an apprentice to a bookbinder at age 14.

#OnThisDay September 22nd, 1870, Charlotte Cooper was born.

Charlotte Cooper became the first female athlete to win Olympic gold in an individual event at the 1900 Olympics in Paris. At the age of 26, she lost her hearing.

She won 5 Wimbledon titles.

Astronomer, educator, librarian & naturalist, Maria had a love for learning & was encouraged by both her parents, her father a schoolteacher & her mother a librarian.

In 1865, she became Professor of Astronomy at Vassar College.

#OnThisDay in 1870, American illustrator & painter Maxfield Parrish was born.
He started painting at an early age & was strongly encouraged by his parents, taking him to Europe in his teens to experience the architecture & the paintings by the old masters.
His career would last more than 50 years!

#OnThisDay in 1856, Louise Blanchard Bethune was born.

She would become the first American woman to work as a professional architect, primarily in the Buffalo, NY area. Her projects included the Hotel Lafayette, the 74th Regiment Armory & 18 public schools.

He also left his legacy - The #Fresnellens - an invention with a technology ahead of its time, but so needed to safeguard countless lives navigating on the waters of the home we call Planet Earth.

Bill Haley & His Comets would make their impact with "Rock Around The Clock" & their version of Big Joe Turner's "Shake, Rattle & Roll".
In 1987, he was posthumously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

He would build & design such lighthouses as Bell Rock & Sumburgh Head, among many others. Engineer to the Northern Lighthouse Board from 1808 - 1842.

So...this Christmas cactus had not bloomed in YEARS...photo on the left was from January....photo on the right, MARCH...YES, a 2ND bloom...WooHoo!

This is a simple lesson in persisting until you succeed. This cactus did not give up!
