North Manitou Shoal Light was automated in 1980, it was the last manned offshore lighthouse on the Great Lakes. "The Crib" remains one of the region's most unique navigational landmarks.

For 106 years, Point Betsie Lighthouse was manned, in 1983 it was automated. Point Betsie was the last manned lighthouse on Lake Michigan and final Michigan lighthouse to lose its resident keeper.

Munising Range Lights replaced the Grand Island Harbor Lighthouse because mariners could not see the old light until they were on top of it? Lit in 1908, the range lights still guide vessels into Munising Harbor.

#OnThisDay in 1772, civil engineer Robert Stevenson was born. He would build & design such lighthouses as Bell Rock & Sumburgh Head. Northern Lighthouse Board Engineer from 1808 - 1842.
