Seen a lot of divisive reviews of "Digger," but surprised no one mentions the film's biggest & most obvious flaw, which is casting a massively bona fide cult figurehead in the lead role like it's no big deal

Seems ALL eps of WandaVision are dropping for FREE on YouTube (likely in advance of the sequel series VisionQuest dropping on Disney Plus in 2 weeks).

If you haven't already, check it out--it's bold, creative, and plays with decades of sitcom tropes (you heard me!)

It's been nearly 6 months and I still can't believe there's a They Might Be Giants song called "Wu-Tang"

I can, though, believe that it's still a banger

Are there any TMBG fans out there? I’m listening to Apollo 18 again today, and it’s taking me way back to the 9th grade.

Thoughts on Jon Watts being tapped to direct (at least film #1 of) the new Star Wars Skywalker trilogy:

- Do I think we *need* another Skywalker trilogy? No. BUT if we really just keep it that in name only, and truly make it about Rey in practice, then I'm on board.

Pet peeve: when someone repeats a letter in a word to emphasize it BUT they emphasize the wrong letter relative to what you'd actually say (or imagine saying) out loud. To wit:

Right way: "Those sandwiches were huuuuuuuge!"
Wrong way: "Those sandwiches were hugeeeeeeeee!"

As a fan of Frank Black & his Ramones tribute "I Heard Ramona Sing," I'm extremely pleased to hear TMBG's "Wu-Tang," by John Linnell's own admission, is a "ripoff" of that very concept (something something highest form of flattery)

My 7th They Might Be Giants show was no less delightful than the preceding 6. Where else can you get these kind of audiovisual shenanigans?

At this point, I think it's safe to say Wes Anderson is to quirky, 20th-century-set idiosyncratic symmetrically composed films, as Robert Eggers is to dingy, grungy, 100-years-ago-or-more, intense gothic-horror films. Neither is a bad thing, mind you, but they both a A Style youtu.be/CL1EFACsWag?...

When I hear celebrities gushing about Tom Cruise, I can't decide if they're really blind to all his Scientology nefarious & BTS behavior, know about it and are fine with it, or are somehow obligated (either contractually or through some threat) to speak well of him. How many do that? Way too many.

A disturbing amount of podcasters and online personalities I at one time listened say, "I'm not political, not taking sides, nothing political about my show's topic" is dispiriting on many levels, not the least of which that capitalism-forced drive to keep as much of your audience as possible.

I'm sorry, but there's no NVC episode this week after all. There is a lot going on and I want to make sure we address it accurately and thoughtfully. You can trust that the show has been on my mind constantly over the last several days. Have a nice weekend -- we'll talk next week!

TMW you read an article with a single grating error but there's no comment section so you take to Bluesky to rant. To wit: In the NBC sci-fi detective series "Awake," Jason Isaacs goes between timelines when he falls asleep... not "without warning," per the article. He's always "Awake." Get it?

Agreed. Also sometimes you get "When the Lights Come On," which is like a song from the POV of one of the people in the basement of *that* house in Cormac McCarthy's "The Road," which, yeeeeesh. Arguably their bleakest banger ever.
