It's that time of year again when we need to remind National Trust members that Restore Trust is a dark-money funded right-wing astroturfing entryist outfit.

Please vote, and vote for literally anyone else.
Support the National Trust by voting for Council members by 11:59pm on 30 October 2026.

Quickvote is convenient if you're short of time or worried about inadvertently voting for Restore Trust's Bonigala, Cristea, Goldman, Mealing or Omrani.

In our often bad times, the Trust's doing good things.
Today marks three years since the iconic Sycamore Gap tree was illegally felled.

We're pleased to bring you new images which reveal how the stump is growing, a sure sign that the tree is in recovery.

'Which taxes do you want to raise instead?' should be the default question to anyone who calls for reductions in immigration.
Good thing that this couldn’t have been predicted almost a year ago and the government didn’t just blithely carry on doing the same thing.

Then we come to these ‘rogue’ AI ‘hacks’ on government websites etc.

This is *not* different. It’s the same basic approach. The AI ignores the privacy of these sites, just like it ignores our personal privacy. It seeks out data, because that’s what it does.

This is not special. Not ‘rogue’.

Two tier policing. Victoria Thomas Bowen, who chucked a milkshake at Farage, was given a 13-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months; had to pay him £150 compensation; had to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £450 in court costs.
It was nowhere near the level of violence of this assault.

When "white sauce" in fish pie
Contains cheese, it’s a lie.
That’s a mornay.
I hate it when food presenters describe a white sauce with cheese in it as a béchamel. It's not. A béchamel is a simple white sauce. Add cheese and it's a mornay. But let's not using the French words and just call one a plain white sauce and the other a cheese sauce.

One more time: Inheritance tax *is not unique or even uncommon* in being "double taxation". The coffee I just bought was paid for with wages on which income tax and NI had been levied, but was also subject to VAT. Just stop it.

Dear Irish journos, don't mimic yank media when Trump lands, don't ask him about his trip, don't ask him how he feels about being in "Oireland",detach yerselves from the schmaltz and bs,ask him about Epstein, ask him the difficult questions, and if one of your colleagues is shut down pick up the baton.
