‘tis true. Okay, dodging any risk with postal votes may not be the main reason we are coming, but as we’re there, we may as well show the teens how it works.

Plus, D votes straight Democrat, except for the Town Clerk who has helped him vote from overseas for years. It’ll be nice to meet her.

We are taking an entire family - kids, in-laws, grandkids - to the town clerk’s office to see US democracy in action.
Just an 8,000 mile round trip…

My other half - definitely a pensioner, and a veteran - always votes straight Democrat except for the extremely helpful town clerk who helps him do so from overseas.

Is it a random Lottery with a one in three chance of winning? Or are there going to criteria to choose among the 60-odd million of us? Either way, can foreigners play? #askingformyselfsodmyfriends

There has been a campaign for several weeks, across various social media, questioning the fairness and affordability of the triple lock. Mumsnet has been widely seeded with posts designed to shift opinion. I’m not saying that’s necessarily bad, but I don’t think the shift is just down to yesterday.

I agree with others. It was standard when I was a kid, and I’m in my 70s, and ditto for my kids, who are 45+. You could cause damage given enough wedding guests. I’m sorry you have missed this cultural phenomenon.

Then we come to these ‘rogue’ AI ‘hacks’ on government websites etc.

This is *not* different. It’s the same basic approach. The AI ignores the privacy of these sites, just like it ignores our personal privacy. It seeks out data, because that’s what it does.

This is not special. Not ‘rogue’.

I’m old enough to know there are no good Tories. Plus I worked briefly with this one, and knew he wasn’t the exception.

@romanpalace.bsky.social are always up for an ‘it’s not a Villa, it’s a palace’ discussion. (Not really a discussion, tbf, because they are pretty adamant)

... believed disinformation, it was somehow disrespectful not to give it equal billing with real information. Instead of redoubling efforts to educate, they decided it was easier to entertain. They pretend their job is to just take the pulse, because it's easier than trying to save the patient. END
