Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

A lot of the "Iron Dome but somewhere else" stuff feels like when the Nazis made a lot of propaganda about the Luftwaffe, everyone went "shit we need a massive air force" and in the process completely misunderstood what the purpose of the Luftwaffe was
Just feels like maybe as an island nation, with every viable flight path towards us travelling over thousands of kms of allies, our missile/drone defence needs might be somewhat different to Israel.

Taking solace in the new George Smiley casting with the idea that maybe one day I, a similarly tubby and unprepossessing character, might one day be played by the handsome and urbane Matthew Macfadyen.

GW’s success is also fascinating because it’s both a high street business and a multinational one, though not in the way you’d expect, because it’s vertically integrated with local manufacturing. The lead belt around Nottingham is arguably the only modern British manufacturing success story.
This gets said constantly, but it worth reiterating: Games Workshop being bigger than fishing is important to shout about because you wouldn't know it from government talking points, which are rarely about anything creative or artistic. Growth won't involve fish or steel, it will involve goblins.

560 (!!!) FTE cuts approved & closure of music and languages courses. absolutely horrific proposals coming out of Nottingham.

measuring ‘interest’ in languages in n of students on UG degrees is so disingenuous—language modules can be combined with anything!

One of the problems with Steam's current policy toward adult content is that it makes no sense to do anything slightly risque or cheeky with your game; you'll get lumped in with us perverts anyway, so you might as well commit to the bit

How much do I have to yell about this? I already wrote *an entire blog* calling out THIS specific site's double-standards, but there is a reason mainstream media doesn't use machine translators even now and it's fucking embarrassing that far more tech literate orgs willingly ignore that for clicks.

Another useful comparison: if any "traditional industry" had seen job losses comparable to the UK games industry in the last few years, it'd be treated as a national crisis on the front of every newspaper for months and months, because those are considered Proper Jobs and making games is not.
