The CDC just re-opened a previously shelved study that would withhold the hepatitis B vaccine from children in Guinea-Bissau, despite decades of evidence showing it is safe and effective.

This is a violation of human rights, using “science” to harm some of the most vulnerable people in the world.

I founded Lamplighter News on my core belief in incremental reporting.

When our community can look back to the bedrock of incremental reporting we see where we’ve grown and where we are still struggling to make progress.

Without that record we are untethered.

Anybody else see the one meterologist talking about how the AI model for this Hurricane Isaias track was clearly a win for how great AI is forecasting? But...how can we know that before landfall??? 😒

Bob Breck and Margaret Orr may be retired but I'm still gonna check with them first every time.

Someone on this flutterby app asked how it is that these people changing the world for the worse don't even give a damn about their own children. There's a case study in this thread.
Somehow, flexing one's tech prowess muscles became more important than actually connecting with people.
It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting.

Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.
