One of the other companies involved in the lawsuit was Coinbase in its very early days. They also got away with having no license for a long time, making it possible for them to grow and eventually buy Ohio's senator. Greg, now a billionaire, apparently runs the world at OpenAI.

It didn't matter. Think (my company) lost the case because the judge decided that it had no standing. By his logic, since it didn't break the law and provide money transmission services without a license, it couldn't sue its competitors who were breaking the law. I couldn't afford to appeal.

Granted, nobody cared then and nobody cares now. But I cared, because the regulators in California threatened to put me in jail for *possibly* committing this crime *in the future*, which never happened. But Stripe and the rest of the Valley got a free pass thanks to their VC dollars. So I sued.

So here is my Greg Brockman story, because many years before he violated the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, 18 U.S.C. § 1030, he and his buddies at Stripe (including Patrick Collison and Saikat Chakrabarti) violated 18 U.S.C. § 1960: running an unlicensed money transmission business. It's a felony.
