The New York Times published an interview last week that I normally wouldn’t bother reading.  It’s one of “The Interview” series, with Sylvester Stallone.  I feel it’s worth noting that I…

Gee, it’s too bad that the Chief Justice can’t escape the response to his destruction of civil rights and the faith people have in the judiciary. Maybe he should quit and be “just John” all the time. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/u...
John Roberts Retreated to His Island. Supreme Court Critics Found Him.
After decades of potlucks and paddle-boarding on Maine’s midcoast, rising anger and protests have left the Supreme Court’s chief justice more isolated than ever.

This was exactly the math we did that led me to quit teaching and become a full time parent. I can’t say I recommend that for career purposes, but I definitely have great relationships with my daughters.

This! Cox is merely making room for conservatives in the Democratic Party. And a reasonable sounding Republican is such an outlier it’s almost newsworthy. Nah, fuck that guy, he should be pointing to the wackos in the GOP and telling them to knock it off.
i think cox should spend less time weeping about polarization and more time working to convince his co-partisans not to abandon pluralism and liberal democracy
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has emerged as a prominent voice calling on Americans to step back from the political hostility gripping the country. The Republican governor is expanding on that message in a new book. https://to.pbs.org/3VmTJnx

I love baseball, but this is utterly stupid.
First I fell in love with baseball, spending countless hours at Dodger Stadium, then going to as many other stadiums as I could.

Then I fell in love with our national parks, visiting Yosemite first, then every park I could: Grand Teton this summer.

If @mlb.com does this, I say goodbye, baseball.
MLB, White House discuss playing game at national park
The White House said in a statement that MLB asked the administration about hosting a game at a national park, adding that the National Park Service has not granted a permit to do so.

This also sums up the American healthcare experience pretty well.

American healthcare is a travesty. This is the bad place.

Seattle voters don't want "tough" on crime policies or politicians. They want leaders to be "responsive" on crime -- to show up with a range of solutions that demonstrate urgency, seriousness, and effectiveness.

This is why Nilu Jenks is winning District 5. She gets this. Julie Kang just panders.

Holy cow, just bought a car. 23 Subaru Forester. Nice to be back in the Scooby fold again. Had the VW we traded in for 12 years. Probably keep this one for 12 years. Can’t wait to do Subaru things in it.

You know the job interview is not going well when the person interviewing you mentions they heard about other roles opening up at your institution. Woof! I knew this wasn’t a fit. But I think it’s really good practice to do interviews.

I really can’t see why the next administration can’t ship Hair Fuhrer to North Sentinel Island. Clearly people don’t need to be criminals, or even be here illegally. So a pardon is useless & his status means nothing. I say send him there and see how long he lasts. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/24/u...

Karen Bass’s LAPD is openly defying a judge’s order to hand over moonlighting records, and it's obvious why. They are desperately hiding a shadow workforce where cops moonlight for ICE contractors, creating blatant conflicts of interest. It's time to enforce the subpoena and demand accountability.

Lots of love for Mamdani pointing out how important it is for progressives and socialists to reclaim the mantle of efficient government from the right.

Seattle’s own @mayor.seattle.gov has been saying similar things. And she’s giving a budget speech later today that might just make similar points:

I hate all the horserace type stories about the “blue wave” that “could” be building for November. Not because I don’t want it to happen, but because it makes me nervous that good candidates are “peaking early” or because the polls are going to incentivize right wingers to gotv. Ugh.
