🚨NEWS:
So this is totally crazy.
A Republican candidate in Texas is sending texts that say "Attachment: $5,000 Check … Pres. Trump just authorized it," and a link to the "portal" to get the money goes to a fundraising page for him to pay off a personal loan he made to the campaign!

bro
This Flock camera is running obsolete, end-of-life software.

- It's on Android 8.1, released in 2017, support ended in 2021
- It's on Android patch level 2018-06-5
- It's running Linux 3.18, released in 2017

This shit is like 8 or 9 years old, and full of vulnerabilities.

Great analysis by Nathan Thompson of the Saudi-Houthi fighting in Yemen, which has opened up effectively a second front in the Middle East. The US, which signed a peace agreement with the Houthis in 2025, are nominally staying out, but quietly supporting the Saudis, which could backfire.
Aftermath: A Second Middle East Front - The American Prospect
The U.S. is officially uninvolved in fighting between Houthis and the Saudi-backed government in Yemen, but quietly they are offering the Saudis support.

The Texas Republican Party is made up of authoritarians, racists, misogynists, perverts, and criminals. It’s powered by right-wing Christians, MAHA influencers, and fascist-curious tech bros.

b-b-b-but I was told this was the only way to be Rational and Effective
I had totally forgotten (or maybe missed at the time) that Gelman and Shalizi published a takedown of the whole idea of Bayesian inference as inductive rational inference. What a treat of a morning! arxiv.org/pdf/1006.3868

It was confirmed yesterday that the centre left coalition won the election in Sweden

As predicted, with the far right performing poorly, coverage has almost entirely vanished from international media
You may be relieved but spare a thought for so many editors in the mainstream media who were hoping to run hyping headlines about the far right winning in Sweden

As always when SD is hyped and ends up crashing, I expect Swedish politics will drop off the radar as it's no longer sexy enough
Sweden, Novus exit poll:

Seat projection national parliament

S-S&D: 101 (-6)
SD-ECR: 66 (-7)
M-EPP: 62 (-6)
C-RE: 32 (+8)
MP-G/EFA: 25 (+7)
V-LEFT: 24
KD-EPP: 21 (+2)
L-RE: 18 (+2)

trump and putin are both very alike in that they inherited huge material stocks from their strategic forebears in preparation for a major calamity and decided to take that and go to the casino, put it all on red, and now have no idea what to do since that didn't work

Donald Trump's 1st impeachment only looking more correct in hindsight.

Turns out impoundment was something that really needed to be nipped in the bud, and undermining security guarantees against Russian aggression was deleterious to global stability.
This might also mean crude oil isn't going up much. If global refining is pegged at the red line, the only other buyers for oil are people who put it back in the ground (reserves).

In short: I'm sorry, Ukraine. I have once again underestimated your game.

god does Pennsylvania need this. a Holy Roman Empire-esque crazy quilt patchwork of cities, townships, boroughs, etc
A minimum population size for local government in general would solve literally hundreds of problems. Lots of cities should be annexed or disincorporated.
the degree of both autonomy and corruption inside tiny police departments in the U.S. is ridiculous.

Can social media be addictive?

@taylorlorenz.bsky.social says no.

“You wanting to communicate and chat with your friends every day is not an addiction,” says Lorenz. “And to frame it that way is incredibly harmful and anti-science.”

many states, including California, also have an option to drop your ballot off directly at a elections office dropbox or election center and avoid USPS on the way back all together, which I'd recommend if possible.
If your state votes by mail, put your ballot in a mailbox AT the post office. Dont send it like regular mail. It's TOO IMPORTANT
