For all the AI existential danger talk, nobody's made the case that Skynet is coming. "Maybe might happen" seem to be doing most of the work.

Has anyone here used Consensus to help with literature research? I’m curious whether it’s actually useful for finding relevant work or if it ends up smoothing over important disagreements.

We as Americans cannot fathom how profoundly destabilizing Trump’s insane Greenland saber-rattling was to European allies. It was a rupture that will never be fully repaired — and yet America has already forgotten it.

This is a great point. Too many people watch these incidents as temporary theater, but they have real consequences.

The $200B request tied to Iran looks less like a bill for the war so far and more like a signal of scope. Early costs have been high, but a request that large likely reflects not just ordnance prices, but replenishment and expectations of a longer campaign.

Rewatched The Net. Sandra Bullock’s character was easy to erase because she ordered pizza online and no one really knew her. Meanwhile I have a disturbingly long list of things shipped to my house because it’s more convenient than going out in public. We really did normalize 90s dystopia.

The Constitution allows letters of marque, but their potential modern use raises risks. Authorizing them against cartels raises questions about accountability, private contractors, and the use of coercive force in a not-quite war.

Trump says Walmart should “eat the tariffs.” But if companies absorb the cost, prices stay flat and demand doesn’t shift. So what are the tariffs really doing? They start to look less like a jobs policy—and more like a quiet, long-term tax.
