Microbiologist fighting tuberculosis with mucosal immunity and sequencing techniques | Assist. Instructor @ UTSW | Avid but slow runner | Husband, brother, son and good friend |
Excited to join UTSW STARS on Oct. 15!
The talk is for middle- & high-school students interested in science and UTSW STARS program. Interested? Ask your teacher to sign up!
I’ll share my journey into science, and I hope students leave believing that science can be a path for them too.

A few weeks ago, I knew about the Letters to a Pre-Scientist program. Yesterday, I finally received my student! 🧪✉️
Really excited to start exchanging letters, sharing what being a scientist is like, and hopefully helping a student see science as a possible path for them. 🔬

Today, Priscilla Del Valle (left), and Begoña Vila (right) met each other in the Roman Space Telescope launching. Priscila was the first rotation student I had in the lab. Dr. Vila is one of those human beings that it is impossible not to admire and I met thanks to @comunidadecusa.bsky.social.

Excited to share that our latest work has been published in ImmunoHorizons!
We describe the generation and characterization of a Pglyrp1-Cre knock-in mouse model and reveal site-dependent differences in Cre activity across mucosal tissues.

I am excited to share that our latest work is now available as a preprint on BioRxiv.
In this study, we describe and characterize a Pglyrp1-Cre mouse model and uncover previously unappreciated heterogeneity among Pglyrp1-expressing cells across mucosal lymphoid tissues.

Last week, my rotation student completed her 8-week stay in the lab. It was a genuine joy to mentor such a bright, curious, and motivated scientist.
We spent a lot of time discussing science, research paths, and what it means to grow as a scientist.
