I’ve been pushing for a release of Jaganrei: Psychic Vision for a couple of years now, so much so that I am the person who holds / owns the HD upscale file and not AYA Pro, because I paid to get it done myself. Also shout out to @midnightmes.bsky.social who made the all new subtitles!
A proper release of Jaganrei Psychic Vision! The 49-minute 1988 “search-the-frame” “ghost-in-the-background” found footage J-Horror with dance horror elements! This film prefigured Ghostwatch, The Blair Witch Project and more or less all other J-Horror (so far as I’m aware). Truly we are blessed.

Just to weigh in on the “sole female director at Venice” conversation… many women, like me, have written fiction feature films that have been considered good enough for great producers to onboard. Then they can’t get the funding because financiers don’t understand women’s perspective or “gaze”.

Over 40% of films in LFF programme are female-made, but only two of 21 gala films are directed by women
Female film-makers are still being squeezed out of the industry as they progress beyond their debut films, the director of the London film festival has said, adding that “the dial does not seem to be moving”.
Kristy Matheson’s comments came as LFF announced its full programme for this year’s event, which runs from 7 to 19 October. Of the 251 titles, 109 (43%) are made by female film-makers, but only two of the 21 gala films are directed by women. Continue reading...
